The other day in the bathroom I was analyzing my breasts and milk dripped out of my right breast. It sparked my interest so I began to press on my right breast around the nipple area and a large amount of milk came out. I proceeded to do the same to the left breast and it literally sprayed out of my breast. Needless to say I continued to do this for about a 1/2 an hour when I decided to go buy a package of 3 tests and all were negative. I have the IUD marina and have had it for 6 years, I'm on my second IUD. My boyfriend of one year are very sexually active and never use condoms when having sex and to save the STD lectures, we both have been tested and all are negative.

I'm a healthy 21 year old and am really worried about this issue, all advice helps. Thank you!

That sounds very interesting. I was up to 9 months pregnant and still no milk. Spraying out? So actual milk and not just colostrum. Wow.

I don't know much about that IUD - I have a copper/non-hormone IUD. Milk comes due to hormone changes and stimulation. There are cases of women who have produced milk for an adopted baby, etc. But they usually go through a lot to induce milk.

All I can advise is make an appointment with your O.B. or at least give her a call.

I wouldn't worry too much. You can have fun with it if you like. Also now that it's here it sounds like you keep stimulating yourself - it's not going away ;) Supply/demand.

It isn't so much of a stimulation more so curiosity. Interesting how a woman can physically spray milk out when she is not pregnant. I heard women can produce milk when they are around babies.. But I am never around babies.

Hummmm..

A quick look around Google shows mostly moms who are nursing find a decreased milk supply on Mirena.

But this happened. Although they had both nursed previously in their lives, the Mirena caused milk to come.

Galactorrhea

Look it up, its more common than people realise me thinks..
you should still go get a check up as it can be caused by anything from excessive stimulation of the nipple, through to thyroid problems, hormones, medications etc etc please see your Dr.

I had the SAME IUD for five years.. While i have had three children.. I always had some milk. No matter what.. Some times it can spray other times just drip.. IF you are really that worried call the DR that placed the IUD for you OR if you no longer have health Insurance call your local Health Dept and set up an apt..
