ER == Extended Release. Means if you don't want to prepare anything, do it orally.
A certain percantage will be instant release, another percentage is released slowly to make it last all day.
40mg is a high dose mate, I did 40mg the first time and suffered terrible anxiety for 5 months.
I recommened starting on 10mg oral one day, just your average day do 10 in the morning. No serious adverse effects?
Then you're good to go.

Next step, I'd say 10mg snorted, see how you feel in 10 minutes.
Seperating the first snorts apart makes it very much less euphoric, but finding your dose is CRITICAL!
So 10mg, and don't re-dose.
The urge to re-dose is overpowering in some people, and that's how I got seriously fucked up on my first time.
I also don't recommened you drink any caffeine or smoke weed with it, or mix it with anything until you get a hold of the drug's natural effects.
So 10mg, that should put you in a tranquil state, it makes me quite tired actually, because it's a low dose.
But it's very nice still, not much of a heart rate increase, nothing is concerning and no anxiety.
20mg you're starting to get fidgity, you get a little bit of anxiety, my friend describes the fidgityness as calming and feels really good, though sitting down in Mc'Donalds made him think everyone was watching him.
He described it as very euphoric, though he mixed it with caffeie and wormwood/catnip (lots).
30mg is getting really up there and I haven't tried it yet.
Snorting it really really burns for my friend, I didn't feel anything (though I'm different).
If you want to start out big, I'd say 20mg should keep you from not freaking out the first time, and you still get a euphoric rush.
Make sure whoever's medication this is, they can still be medicated!
Different routes of administration produce differen't effects, sublingual produces a non-stimulant but euphoric high, oral produces a mroe energetic less euphoric high, IV is meant to be very euphoric (and dangerous, contains fillers) and plugging is also meant to be very euphoric.
Snorting it can ruin the nose middle bit (I forgot the name) if you abuse methlyphenidate constantly, as the vasocontriction is pretty bad.
I got serious bad heart effects @ 40mg oral, 190BPM for 8 hours.
Ummm, don't snort the ER one, there are tutorials on here or drug-forums which explain with pictures how to make it snortable.
Oral for me, kicked in at about 20minutes, snorting was ~5mins, but there's too many variables here, differen't for everyone.
