Anybody fortunate ever to have tried the ludes? Or Mandrax as it is more popularly referred to these days in South Africa? Most notably Cape Town. I was always curious to try this drug and have to admit if somebody asked me what drug would I would most want to try I would reply "methaqualone." please do not think I am trying to acquire the substance by any means, But am simply looking for anybodys experience with the substance.

These were around a lot when I was a teenager (early 80's). Absolutely sublime. Haven't heard about them since then, but my introduction to the current opiate cocktail I am on came from a pain issue, not recreational so I am not sure what is out on the 'street'.

Methaqualone

As a newby I have to be careful with my first post. These relatively "strong" sleeping tablets were introduced as I remember in the middle 60s. They were not being dispensed in my pharmacy in the early 60s where barbiturates were still being widely used. I have used them on various occasions but only to sleep and could never understand the street worth of them. I would drop off to sleep within minutes waking 8 hours later. In the UK they were branded Mandrax and in the US as Quaalude. They quickly came under the microscope because they were very unsafe in even moderate overdose. The chemical is still being manufactured in South Africa by street vendors and the street name I believe is Mandrax (the old UK brand name).

Yeah, back in the late 70's I had a friend that the Lynard Skynard song "What's that smell" described to a tee, as he was indeed the Prince of 'Ludes! I tried them a couple of times but did'nt really like them as they knocked me out.

Delightful stuff. I have a chemist friend who occasionally synths 'fun' and rare things, so I've tried it a few times in the past six months or so.

Aside from falling asleep quickly, most of the reports on how fun they are if you don't sleep are quite accurate.

wonderful. someone once described them as a combo of 4 shots of jack, a bump of some nice coke, and and maybe a small dose of ecstacy. basically, they are super euphoric if you stay awake. not just sloppy benzo retardation but actually smiling and feeling very warm and floaty. i would personally compare it to mixing some xanax with oxy.
