meth --PHYSICALLY addictive or not?

based on what i've read, i always concluded that it was both physically and mentally addictive--but the physical aspect was never directly cited. The last info i've read about the addiction properties stated that it wasn't physically addicting.
What's the absolute truth to this?

The physical addiction potential of meth is doubtful but don't let this make you think its not a problem.
Psychological addiction is high and though it may not be physically addictive, its potential to waste the body (weight loss, tiredness etc) is exceptional.
Pound for pound its the strongest thing I have ever taken and makes more nonsense of the drug laws where it is only classified as class B.

Meth is both physically and mentally addictive. You are toying with your brains dopamine axis and yes, this can cause long term damage that is very real. Here's a good place to start reading:

Strange, becuz i checked erowid originally and figured that yea it has dual addiction properties. Other sites, though, state directly that it is not directly phyiscally addicting. I wonder why there's no official conclusion.

Actually methamphetamine is not physically addictive, however, there are physical symptoms asscoiated with it's withdrawal, mind you those are percipitated by the mental aspect, and anyone who has been addicited would tell you otherwise - but it doesn't meet the requirements of a physically addictive drug..

I've always felt that if you want to quit and are unable to, and the drug is causing you problems, the distinction between physical and mental addiction is really irrelevant.

How much is too much.?
Do you need several days in row to become addicy or what?
How much I can use maximum so I will not
be addicted?

Sadly ALIN, that's a question that cannot be answered.
Using whizz for one night won't get you hooked, but it's impossible to say how much is enough to grab yer.
The only way to find out is actually get hooked. To avoid that - use in moderation.

ALIN, to shed some light:
The first time I did meth I did a quarter gram of high-quality shit in one seven hour stretch. That was way too much. I started out with a decent sized line, and that would have been enough for the whole seven hours if it weren't for the fact that the person who I was with was a hardcore tweaker. He kept on doing lines the whole night, and he would rake out a line for me every time he did one himself. Now, I know my limits, and I normally try not to overdo things, but every line he cut looked soooo good and I couldn't think of any real reason not to do more, and it was being offered to me for free, so I kept on snorting. I ended that morning being tweaked out of my mind, but it felt great. I felt like I was on top of the world. I had a really strong urge to buy some of my own. I could picture myself using it every day. The realization of just how addictive it can be made me realize just how supid I would be to get hooked on it.
Long story short: all it takes is a bit of common sense and a bit of willpower to not get hooked on meth.
epilogue: I am currently a meth enthusiast. I use it every so often, but I know how to limit myself so I don't overdo it again. I can make a quarter gram last four or five days, and I'm never awake for more than two days at a time.
And yes, I am tweaking right now... hence the long rambly nature of this post.
Adios,
Steve

Well a friend of mine wrote her PhD on the subject that Addiction doesn't exist but dependence does. So I guess there is a bit of disagreement about whether anything is actually addictive!

I'm not an expert or anything but from experience, I would say its physically and mentally addicting. I guess it depends on who's definition you base "physically" addicting on. My friend said there was a point in his life, when he was doing a lot, that he actually needed meth to sleep, eat, or do anything productive. It seems to me, although I might be wrong, that physical addiction is when your body needs the drug to perform naturally. Going through withdraw is what most addicts have to conquer first in their recovery. Now, mentally, I have never experienced a more mentally addictive drug...but that's my opinin. Anyway, just thought I'd share my 2 cents on the topic

I have a sister whom, I believe, if anyone was addicted it would be her. She smokes it everyday, all thru the day, for many days in a row(a month or longer at times). However, whenever she wants to she just stops. She sleeps for about three days and then she takes a really long break before she does it again. So, to hear her tell the story she is not addicted.
She is however: skinny as a stick, has horrible skin, is moody as hell (hugs you one minute-bites your head off the next) and can't eat a normal meal to save her life. She eats fruit and cake and cookies alot. Great nutrtion, huh. So I guess what I am saying is be careful with this stuff cause it can get good to ya, but it's not good for ya!!!!
I have said this before on other threads but I think it fits here. Use it for what I personally believe drugs to be for: Expand your mind, have some fun, learn about yourself and others, but don't let it become what you look forward to all the time and please don't let it become something you need to get thru the day or to enjoy the day for that matter. Not everyday at least.
Moderation is different to everyone. Be honest with yourself about what moderation means to you when you are straight and try to stick to the limits you set for yourself.

i always thought that if a drug cause physical symptoms on the withdrawl, that it was physically addictive, but i guess i was wrong.
what exactly are the requirements for a drug to be physically addictive?

Yea, i know philosophically, addiction is an idiopathic thing and there are no set-standards as to whats addictive and whats not.
However, i am more interested in the scientific data on what's considered addictive and in what ways it is, this regarding meth presently. I am still assured that meth, as of now, is still considered not to be physically addicting...

Because you don't sleep and eat enough when you've used meth (or any kind of speed)...you'll get this nasty comedown when stopping. You will also feel like shit if you don't sleep and eat without using meth, right?
But, if you start using again...you'll feel better. I think it isn't physically addictive...
