well i've had this problem since i was about 12 or 13 years old... best thing i've found to help it is a product called 'odaban' and its an antiperspirant spray used once every week or two weeks and it works pretty well, but as i got older and my anxiety got worse it stopped working as well but i still use it maybe once a month ... valium helps as does a nice drink but i still have hyperhidrosis and its one of the most embarrasing conditions to have, especially when your on the dating scene... so i'd like to know if any other BL'ers have this problem and what they do to live with it or stop it or decrease the severity... thanks in advance...

:\ :(
EOJ?

oh and after i took opiates for the first time in my life i had an immediate reduction of this problem, and after i started using daily the problem was non-existant, however i soon realized that opiate addiction (morphine & oxycodone specifically) was a lot worse than sweating too much, so now i'm on suboxone, but that doesn't help at all (besides for opiate W/Ds and cravings)

There was a short period when I experienced excessive sweating from heavy MDMA abuse. My Doctor prescribed something called Drysol that remedied the problem.

thanks, i'll look into it... however my problem is not caused by any medications, as it started around age 12-13 before i had ever gotten drunk or stoned, (i think that's when my GAD/SAD & panic disorder started. but thanks for the suggestion, i appreciate it.

I don't know of any meds for this condition, but it's odd to me that opiate use stopped this for you. I don't normally have excessive sweating, but I'm also opiate dependent (as I think you and I have discussed in another thread re: Suboxone) and H/OC would always cause severe sweating for me. Complete opposite reaction.

Good luck in finding that though man.

Drysol should still work. It does its job on the pores themselves rather than being an internal Medication you have to take.

Opiates aren't used to control perspiration. As someone said above, a lot of people tend to sweat more on them.

So you're saying this is caused by anxiety?

If that's the case, you should treat(cure?) the cause, not the symptoms.

yea for some reason opiates stopped the sweating, probably because they also COMPLETELY took away any and all anxiety i have...

i have been diagnosed with SAD / GAD and panic disorder and have tried over 11 anti-depressants , 6 benzos, etc... but my current cocktail is working wonders for my anxiety, but i still sweat but i think its mainly from the daily stims i take (focalin)

i'm on:
1mg suboxone daily
20mg diazepam daily
5-10mg focalin daily
2-4mg loperamide daily

so i am treating the underlying cause of the perspiration which i believe is the anxiety, as i was always an anxious kid... but even with my anxiey (social and general) under control i still sweat more than i'd like to... however it could be from the focalin, not sure b/c days when i dont take it i still sweat... but the anxiety is under control which is why i started this thread... but opiates always helped my anxiety a lot and when i'm not anxious / nervous i don't sweat.

i'll look into drysol, i use odaban which isn't a medication but rather an external spray anti-perspirant which has 20% aluminium chloride and that helps a lot but only for about a week , and then i have to re-spray...

but i really appreciate all the feedback and comments, thank you all! glad to see i'm not the only person

Drysol is the same thing as what you're using. It's aluminum chloride at 20%.

Cut out the Focalin. It's a stimulant, and they cause excessive sweating. As can be seen if you're binging on methamp/amp, or cocaine.

As for hyperhidrosis, it's a disorder where your body perspires excessively. For whatever reason your body can't turn off the switch. It could either be idiopathic, where the cause is unknown, or can be a symptom of an underlying cause.

are you saying its just underarm sweating? (ie axillary hyperhydrosis)

if nothing else seems to work you can get botox injections in the axillary sweat glands which effectively stops them from producing sweat for like 6 months or something. This WILL stop the sweating but costs $$ and isnt really permanent although many people have reported that after 2 or 3 treatments like this the sweat glands are pretty much screwed and dont sweat anymore so it can become a more long term fix.

^ yes its only axillary hyperhidrosis. sometimes my palms sweat, but the valium helps that. i have read about surgery for HH but i dont think i can spend anymore money for that because i lost my health insurance after taking this semester off from college because i needed to get my life back on track after a two year stint of heavy opioid abuse. i still relapse all the time, but i'm on suboxone and that has decreased my usage a great deal. i can use a large dose of morphine and have no withdrawals or cravings the next day regardless of my suboxone intake that day (usually i wait til the day after to take the sub when i relapse) but since i've been using morphine lately i dont notice that horrible W/D i used to get from it the next morning and the cravings are non-existant... so maybe i've finally got my tolerance down enough ? i know this was kinda OT but thats where i'm at... but i'm gonna try to stay away from the opiates for a while... i got a new job that i really want to keep and it starts monday so i gotta get my shit together.

but i guess i'll have to stick to my odaban or drysol... oh well , life goes on, too bad there isn't any medication to help this. i did notice that gabepentin at high doses seemed to decrease my perspiration to a certain extent but after taking gabapentin daily that went away... maybe i'll try gaba again in addition to the valium...

thanks again for all your comments / feedback everyone

you could try useing some clonidine its to help opiod withdrawel the bad sweating that comes with it it might help you

Try an anticholinergic like benadryl. Kind of relaxes you and stimulates your parasympathetic system which will directly decrease sweating. Your doc knows best on this one though

Well, there's the Botox option as someone mentioned, but that's expensive. I've always been sweatier than others, and the first thing I've found to work really well is Certain-Dri. It's a two-part deal, one is a roll-on liquid that is really heavily concentrated and lasts up to 72 hours, and the other is a typical "stick" type that is a different ingredient and you apply it every day. I apply both every day though, and it's helped a lot. Another thing I noticed, and I have no idea for the reason for it, but when I was trying tons of antiperspirants a year or so back, they would all work for like a week or so each and I'd think "Yes! This is the one!", but then it would stop working. I'd switch to another, and the same thing would happen, even if it was the same active ingredient in the same exact amount. I was never able to figure out why.

It is odd that opiates make you sweat less, as they always cause me to dump buckets out my forehead. However, in lower doses, I can see them reducing sweat by reducing anxiety but not reaching the level where the opiate itself causes the perspiration.

As a previous poster mentioned, clonidine is an excellent idea if you are considering a pharmaceutical solution. It also helps with amphetamine comedown, though it may completely negate the effects of Focalin on you.

What about sweating on the palms of your hands?

I get this really bad when I play guitar for some reason, annoys the hell outta me cause I go through guitar strings really quick. Anyone got any recommendations?

^^ so do i... but i realised it was MAINLY due to my anxiety not being under control. got a new doctor and am on 20mg / day of diazepam and do not sweat at all anymore. its amazing. it was all anxiety related. my palms were always wet and it sucked playing bass/guitar. get relief for your anxiety and the sweating will go away!

Ooh, but I don't have anxiety!

Actually, I remember seeing some stuff you can buy...aluminium powder or something? You put it on your hands to stop sweating, on your feet as well maybe.

This forum is about psychoactives. Surprisingly, I think we've done a good job covering this, but I'm still going to move it to the Healthy Living forum so it can get proper coverage/attention.
