... Is life a game of chess, where skill and forthought dictates the outcome; or is it a game of backgammon, where skill may speed up or delay the end result, but that is ultimately determined by a throw of dice?

Now, I don't care what you think about predestination ;). What I'm wondering is this: Are you a chess player or a backgammon player?

I have always been *horrible* at chess but better at backgammon-like games. It certainly does reflect my outlook...

Chess player, for sure. Every action, thought and word that passes through my brain is analyzed and integrated into my universal model. I have a strong memory (I would consider it photographic) which strengthens my Chess playing nature relative to life.

The only exception to this rule are my emotions. I am a highly emotional being and I lack the ability to control them. This is where logic fails me and biochemistry take over.

Life is most def a game a chess.....esp when dealing w/ other people who are also playing w/ chess....but there's also that added part where its backgammon as well.....alot of things require chance and luck

Im a chess player myself....and i think most people are as well...at least thats whats required to surivive in a capatalistic soceity....survival of the fittest if u thionk about it....the backgammon players have or will die off ...if they are purely just that...and wait for things to come to them

I used to be able to say that but my memory is just fucked up now. Maybe if I go sober for a while.

So checkers player, I guess.
 
i'd say i'm neither, because both games involve your own stradegy to get what you want(to WIN!!)
whereas i try not to focus on the destination, but rather enjoy the journey :)
 
The problem with the chessplayer outlook is the lack of time we have to spend on every problem we come across.

Sure, if you sat there long enough you would eventualy come up with the perfect answer to "soup or salad?", but if you did that all the time, you would end up making NO desision, which is the worst desision of all.

It takes a surtain degree of emotional intuition IMO.
