MDMA with strong smell

Hello everyone, I just got a bit of MDMA in crystal/rock form. The rocks have an off-white/tan/amber color. It looks good. But when I open the baggie, the smell is pretty pungent. It's really hard to describe, I just can't put my finger on it. It's somewhat sweet, but at the same time it kind of smells like lemon cleaning products, maybe even some really funky licorice? I bought some of the same batch before about a month ago with the same overwhelming smell. I consumed it and rolled hard, with eye flutters, jaw grinding, "I love everyone and I want to know how they're feeling and have them tell me their life story", etc etc... The come up was clean, as well as the come down. Typical reactions to MDMA, in my book at least.
I know test kits are the way to go, I will already take the heat for being horrible and irresponsible for not using one and yadda yadda...
But my real question is, does MDMA even have a scent? Have you ever had MDMA with a noticeable/strong smell?
I've poked around the internet a bit already, and people have used "aniseed" and "safrole" to describe its scent, but I have no idea what either of those smell like to begin with.

if its cleaned properly it should not have a smell or a colour. often the liquorice aroma is associated with mdma. the slight colour and aroma tells me its not as pure as it could be however it could still be strong as you yourself have testified. from what i understand the aroma (probably the colour too) comes from safrole used in the synth process that has not been cleansed out.

aniseed smells like liquorice imo..

Hmm I was thinking along those lines as well. This thread, however, scared me a bit. Gave me the incentive to start a thread of my own.

And thanks! I've actually been frequenting BL for at least 2 years now but I tend to lurk more than I post. I didn't even open an account until last year. I think I may be a greenlighter forever, heh.

mdma is pretty distinguishable and i doubt one could make a concoction from meth and what ever else that thread claimed that would compare to mdma effects. lots of people on here claim 'magic' blah blah blah.

ime coloured stinky stuff can hit just as hard as pure stuff but usually has more side effects &/or a harsher comedown, thats just my experience though. the best stuff i ever got my hands on was fine white/translucent powder/crystal that clumped together with minimal chemical aroma but a hell of a burn and a hard to describe though very tasty distinguishable drip/taste.

i would try to test your gear and then you know whats your playing with.

If it has a licorice or rootbeer smell its probably a good sign. It open debate whether the best MDMA has a smell or no smell, I've gotten many varieties of pure mdma, with differences in smell,with all around similar potency but slightly different effects. If it has a sass smell your in good waters, get a test kit to be sure.

Oh and Safrole or sass smells like rootbeer but slightly different.

Oh God, don't listen to Drugs Forum.

Smell will tell you nothing. Literally, nothing. Safrole and other essential oils can EASILY be added to a batch of any drug to make it brown and smell like MDMA, it's as simple as just pouring some in the bag and mixing it up well.


You need a testing kit to tell if what you have is MDMA or not. They can also detect the presence of meth, DXM, 2C-B, methylone, MDPV and a wide range of other chemicals in a sample. They can be found from dancesafe.org for domestic (in the US) orders, and eztest.com for outside the US.
