I am curious to know if there is any evidence to support the stability of MDMA over time. I know there is a sticky involving the question but I am looking for a more detailed answer than 'MDMA will last for years if stored correctly'. Even Tylenol will expire and lose its potency with age. It's hard to imagine that a pill made by a kitchen chemist can be more stable than a pharmaceutical grade substance. My Adderall has a 1 year 'use before' date according to the bottle.

The rate at which potency fades is so minuscule, even over time that it's not even worth mentioning.
A quick google search can give you a more percise answer.

The "use before" date on most prescriptions means the chemical has the potential to degrade after a certain point- in most cases, it's still very active for a very very long time. It's rare that age will change a chemical into something that would give different effects, or no effects at all.

Expiration dates are something that legally have to be on drugs to be sold. Any prescription drug fan can tell you, a 5 year old bottle of oxycodone is still a find.

There was a regular poster on here over a year ago who was doing construction in a house that had not been entered since the 80's, and found some pills that were crumbled to bits in the attic- barely even recognizable color. He reagent tested it, and it went positive for MDxx. He did a trip report later and apparently rolled harder than he ever has. These were pills that were likely made back when MDMA was legal mind you, but they were over 20 years old.

MDMA is not made by "kitchen chemists", if someone claims to be manufacturing MDMA easily in their home, they're lying to you.

So pharmaceutical companies underestimate the expiration dates so consumers would purchase more? I am hoping this is the case because I have MDMA lying around that is 2-3 years old. Should I take more to account for the degradation or is it so miniscule that an adjustment in dose is not necessary?

Pharmaceutical companies are legally required by the FDA to put the expiry date as the date tests show it has the ability to change chemically. This does not mean it will actually lose potency. A chemical change can be something that has no effect on how it will effect you, but as a "safety" measure that date must be reported to the consumer.

Different drug families have different shelf lives as well, but Pihkal goes into the shelf life of MDMA in detail. I would certainly not worry about 2-3 year old pills, MDMA should last beyond your life time.

Basically the more reactive a chemical is, the quicker it will bind with another molecule from the environment and turn into something else.
Liquid chemicals often form peroxides, and solids tend to oxidize or absorb moisture.
mdma is not very reactive at all, and at most absorbs moisture from the air. Even then it is not particularly hygroscopic, far less so in fact than kitchen salt.
Even if your mdma has turned to mush, it will still work though. Gentle heating will turn it back to powder.

To the OP. Ya I totally hear what you are saying. My adderall IR prescription starts dissolving and seems to lose a little bit of potency (could be plasma effect) after one month. LOL. But then again that could just be the binders and the coloring and not so much of the active drug.

Anyway I would imagine that MDMA definitely does have some kind of shelf life and does lose potency. Definitely how you store it and preserve it plays a huge role to keep the mdma top notch.

I have accidently put my rolls in the washing machine or just plain ol got them damp and they turned to mush. It was a little gross taking it down but still did the trick.
I'm just gunna shut up before my ADHD takes over and I keep typing a bunch of nonsense

If the neanderthals had MDMA that scientists found well preserved in one of their caves, then you could still have a good time with it.

all i can say is,
so far ive consumed 1 year old mdma and its the same potency.

Im sure keeping mdma for a few years isnt going to lose potency.

We don't have to worry about it too much right?
