MDMA Myths discussion.

not sure if this is the kind of myth you are looking for... But its the myth that Merck originally developed mdma as a diet pill seems to be a fairly common one.

Nice list MazDan. Maybe you could put something in there about overdosing. A lot of people I run in to seem to think people overdose and die at Raves all the time.

i have heard from a few people that MDMA was originally developed to help enhance solder's senses. the irony being that it turned out to make you love everyone.

i don't really belive it though.

Im sure it was tested by the army at some point - amphs, meth and LSD sure were. Theyll put their hands on anything.

MDMA surfaced again briefly as one of a number of agents used in clandestine US military research during the 1950s. The CIA's Project MK-Ultra was investigating new techniques of brainwashing, espionage and mind-control. MDMA, code-named EA-1475, was tested at the US Army's Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland. However, unlike LSD or the ill-named "truth drug" scopolamine, MDMA was used only on animals: mice, rats, pigs, monkeys and dogs. Thankfully, MDMA's military potential was not realised.

Yeah, it wasn't really developed for anything, they just synthesised it because they could. No-one came up with even a potential use for it till much later.

Maybe your people have confused it with amphetamines? Certainly, soldiers in WW2 were given amphetamines or meth, which would presumably help their senses and keep them more alert.

I was sure i read somewhere it was used in the hope it would stave off hunger but I may be confused with speed.

A number of people believe that it was originally patented as an appetite suppressant. AFAIK, it wasn't - Merck just patented it, but didn't really do anything with it.

Actually the military gave someone a lethal IV dose of MDMA, someone got a 500mg dose of MDMA injected intravenously an died.

mda was the diet pill and was used for military use (truth serum). also im not sure of this but isnt mda a precursor to mdma?
