Hey everyone,
I recently stumbled on a couple of articles ( that I won't post there because they are on the blog section of a research chemical website and It would be considered sourcing I think ) that really got me thinking about the unexpected links between martial arts and psychedelics or others drugs. It might sound a bit out there, but Kilindi Iyi researched this , for him the origin of martial arts and entheogens are linked, and this guy talks about shroom dosage of 40+g in his conference ( really lovely guy RIP )

Traditionally, martial arts has been about more than just fighting—it’s a journey toward balancing body and mind. So maybe that ancient warriors might have even used substances like Psilocybe or Amanita muscaria not just for a buzz but to push past normal limits. Imagine training your body while exploring new dimensions of your mind—it's like unlocking a secret level of focus and creativity.

We also have the history of the Hashshashins, those medieval muslim/arab assassins who were known to use hashish to sharpen their senses and get into a special state of mind before a mission. And then there’s modern fighter like Mike Tyson, who experienced LSD when he was 11 or 13 i forget and he talk about using psilocybe mushrooms to train and DMT to heal and reinvent himself after his boxing career. There’s even a personal story on the articles I've read of someone going on a martial arts retreat that mixed psychedelics with sensory deprivation ( dark room therapy )— and I think there are many fighter in the UFC ( Adasanya etc ) that use psychedelics.

What really hit me is the idea that these substances could actually enhance martial arts practice. I personnaly love experimenting with drugs ( psychedelic, empathogen & dissociative. the others i don't really find that they have a potential for transformation ) and I love to dance for hours on them, till exhaustion, and seeing how martial art and dancing have common point ( exemple : Kapoeira ) I think it can make a big difference. Maybe a new martial art would emerge from training especially under influence ?

If it's the case I'll patent it Tripono Jutsu just so people call me Tripono Jutsu Sensei.

So, what do you people think? Could blending some trippy drugs and martial arts be the next hack ? And I'm not talking about enhancing performance drugs like amphetamines or what, really about training completly tripped.

i dunno.. i always write how i like to do tai chi on psychedelics and how it helps with my back issues.

my father always pressured me to do jeet kune do and kenpo karate at different studios when i was growing up.. i didn't really enjoy it all the time,, but when i hurt myself and needed tai chi, i feel like it's good my body got used to some of the breathing techniques and what not. i learned a little bit of tia chi at the june kune do school.

the breathing methods of tai chi or yoga is what makes them so good while tripping.. plus the fluid hand movements feel really good.

I might sound a bit naive here, but why the focus on psychedelics?

You are right about the assassin's and hash.
And I knew o e guy who daid his MA training when on opiates was more effective than when he was not (a casual user)

Great post.

I'm a lifelong martial artist, and I do also like various drugs. I'm a brown belt in BJJ and have been doing it on and off since 1996 and competed in many tournaments. I've also cross trained in MMA, boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and Karate.

But as far as your post and the main question being "can certain psychedelics and other drugs help with training?", I'll give my 2 cents, because I'm not totally sure:

ASIDE from actual PEDS or even stuff like Kratom or amphetamines, I don't know how much benefit drugs have on training. I mean, are you you talking specifically about taking certain drugs WHILE training, or also about say, taking drugs after a training session and using them to think about what you did or maybe watching instructional videos while high etc.

Many people in the BJJ and MMA community love to use weed while training (Joe Rogan and Eddie Bravo being the biggest advocates.) I don't personally like training high because I think I'd get self-conscious. I don't know cause I've never done it, but I don't like being high on THC unless I know everyone else i'm with is high and/or I'm just really super close friends with someone. But there are people who swear that weed use helps their training.

For me, I enjoy weed AFTER a training session. It helps with the sore muscles and I like to get high and reflect on how my training went that day and think about certain moves etc. But I'm not really sure how much it helps MENTALLY if that is what you are asking. It does help muscle relaxation.

As far as actual tripping, I don't think I or most others would want to train while tripping balls lol. Could they potentially help with memorization of moves or something like that? I'm not sure.

I do think it's possible that one could use psychedelics to break through mental blocks that hinder training. After all, mental blocks can negatively affect martial arts training just like anything else. I've certainly had them mess with me, and I have found that weed and Kratom can both help me think through those mental blocks in a different way. I think psychedelics could maybe also help with this. However, I can never get full benefits from most psychedelics because I'm on prozac and have been most of my life. I wish I could get off it to get the full benefits of psychedelics and be able to take so many drugs that could kill me right now, but I just don't know if I will ever be able to get off prozac.
