Well well well after seeing Pleonastic's new sig which was quoted by MM, I was prompted to start a new thread on here about MM (Marilyn Manson).
So who likes MM and who doesn't??? Reasons would be good to hear. The reason I'm asking this is because I'd be intrested to read what a bunch of pill poppin BLters think

To all the 'nay'-sayers, bear this in mind: Our Mr Brian Warner is one of the most intellectual musicians of current times... He can actually discuss in great deal the complex theologies nad philosophy behind what he 'preaches'... Whether he believes it or not, what he's done is certainly no mean feat...

Though I will say that I think he's an incredibly intelligent person who knows exactly what he's doing. And his music is pretty good too if you happen to like that genre. So yeah, I guess you could call me a fan!

I reckon he's crap, don't like the music, and he's seriously running out of shock tactics. You gotta admire the guy for finding a gap in the market and filling it so well though. He'll retire with plenty of $$ and it'll have all been worth it.
Alice Cooper really isn't very scary 20 years on.
 
Gotta say he's way outta my usual genre... but having seen him at Roskilde (awesome Danish music festival, sorta like 4 BDO's in a row), I actually have some repect for his music and performances.
Personally I think U should see B4 you judge.

i was very much into the "alternative/harder" music scene before i started enjoying rave music. and i still am, u could catch me at a gig still at least once a week. i like marilyn mansons music, at least some of it, could listen to his version of the beautiful people any day any time.
 
He doesn't appeal to me at all... Regardless of whether or not he's a learned person, he still comes across as a complete freak... *shrug* I don't pay enough attention to be able to tell if the lyrics of his songs mean anything, nor do I really care... The music doesn't appeal to me, his appearance doesn't appeal to me... Basically there's nothing there that interests me at all...

Although he pales in comparison (ooh aah hehe pun pun) to my beloved reznor - i gotta say, after being on the outskirts of the mm mosh at BDO a few years ago when "i don't like the drugs" came on.. whooooa. he spoke to me man. lol.. j/k He put on an awesome show, which is something i respect.
I also respect the fact that he can give himself a blow job. Screw the home sown veggie garden, that's what i call self sufficient! (just kidding again.. more media hyped rumours.. or are they?)
I like him. don't really know much about him, but i like the music and he's the epitome of an 'i dont give a fuck what you think' mantra. yes I know, its been done before - but he does it well, and there's always room for more rebellion, revolt and general anti-establishment behaviour in the world (i was gonna say anarchy but he's a yank so that wouldnt eally work huh?).
Good on 'im I say. I'd rather have people love me like crazy or hate me like hell than not think anything of me at all!
And his cossies are speccie too. I gotta get me some pvc and buckles too.

I have to say I'm not a fan. I have seen him live and heard all his music and in my opinion he's not all that special. He must be given credit for marketing himself very cleverly though, in my opinion, a musician should be judged on his/her musical ability as well as gimmicks etc. I personally don't feel he is all that talented as a musician. But, if you like him more power to you.
PeterPoppa, That comment about Mr E Moore being a class A dickhead was uncalled for. He was merely stating his opinion just like you did in your earlier post.

I didn't feel like going into details as to why I beleive him to be crap, I was simply stating my opinion. I could have gone on for an age (in my best english of course) about why I think his music uses the same tired formula, how his shock tactics make me yawn, or how I get the distinct feeling that I've seen it all before, but whats the point? I don't feel like writing it because it doesn't interest me to be honest, I simply wanted to state my opinion and be the first to say they didn't like the money making juggernaut that is Marilyn Manson.
I realise my response was short and lacked a full essay including references as to why I have formed this opinion, but that doesn't give you the right to personally attack me for this.
Anyway, play nice Peter, you might hurt somebody's feelings

I didn't give his music a chance for ages because I thought his media persona was a bit wanky, but once I did I realised he could write a funky catchy tune with some good crunchy industrial sounds. I'm still not sold on his look tho.

He's just a product of a very slick marketing campaign and some very skilled people at a record company or production/media organisation, nuff said.
The man might have artistic or musical talents but at the end of the day, like someone else in this thread said, he's found a gap in the market and cleverly filled it and will retire well remunerated. This thread is asking basically whether or not i respect and admire the ARTIST, and in my opinion all you people writing back with pro responses are admiring his ability to be a freakshow puppet for some skilled media/production people at a record company, not a musician. To twist things round and champion the fact that MM is amusician is wrong - his focus is on shock tactics and silly attention grabbing stunts.
To me, I respect an artist for their artistic integrity not their marketing skills and shock tactics, I'm not bagging marilyn manson but I'm saying I don't like what he is because this thread asked that, and I've put forward a negative view based on the merits of what MM is and how he became that. So I think that's fair.
 
i saw MM at the Perth BDO... the show that he was boo-ed offstage, and showered in rubbish thrown from the crowd...
i was extremely pissed off, the music we did get to hear from him and his band was "da shit", prolly the best sounding group i heard that night, blew the arse off Courtney Love and her bunch of bitches...
i think its unfair that i didnt get to hear more of MM's stuff, but, do i blame the dickheads in the crowd, most of which go on constantly about how "individual" they r, yet cant except MM's antics, or, do i blame MM for insisting on being sooooo fuckin contraversial, to the point where a potential fan doesnt get to see him perform...
personally, i wish he hadn't worn the red G-string and acted like a complete tool onstage, not because i give a shit about what he does as a person, but because in this case it affected his performance as a musician...
