this was something i heard before, and didn't post cause i didn't know it was generally searchable information on the net at this point, but i'm pretty sure it's a true story with how many places it's on the net at this point. marilyn manson fans really didn't like the band arab on radar when they opened for them in providence rhode island in 1996...
so here's what i think about this... arab on radar is a band that went on to have genreally really perverted lyrics shouted by this annoying ass guy in a high pitch voice. i admit this stuff has nothing to do with rock and marilyn manson fans might be into the epic rock character... personally, i hate the perverted weird ass lyrics the dude in arab on radar sings, not appealing to me at all, but the generally pitch and retardednesss of his voice kind of just reminds me of how a flock of crows could be pleasant. the guitar in this band is some of the craziest high pitched shit that i've ever heard and also reminds me of crows or elephants, just generally unpleasant animal noises unlike how some birds are really melodic.
here's some of the music they were doing around 1996:
this is a totally easy to listen to song for punk music:
crazy distorted bass that their newer music didn't have, with some pretty common noisy slide guitar. generally easy to listen to.. awesome song imo:
this also very distorted bass riff in this is pretty good imo. the guitar is a little whack, not really as insane high pitch as what they went on to do, but idk, for opening for marilyn manson i'd accept it as at least interesting.
this is one of their later albums and imo the pitch that starts the very start of this album is some of the most insane disturbing yet intriguing pitches created on guitar.. idk, i saw them live in like 2002 or 2003 and they were pretty accurately insane guitar pitch. these guys really know what they are doing. they put on a really simple light show with some strobe and they just angled the light right to create some crazy ass shadows, figures i'm pretty sure they were providence rhode island art students... i'd recommend just listening to opening track on this album for the review i wrote the opening. it doesn't really go any where after that.
so i'm guessing the album smells like children with "Sweet dreams" by marilyn manson was coming out at that time... also i bet the album with the song "cake and sodomy" was expected to be played, that's a really catchy rock song, but generally listening to that album in it's entirity is not what i'd consider a listenable experience.. power chords in general are why i always talk about liking the band polvo and stuff like archers of loaf, they have some pretty similar rock sounds but they tune more listenable stuff than standard power chords or drop d... like "Sweet dreams" is an awesome song... later on when "tourniquit" came out, that's actually one of the top rock songs i know, really rates high in any genre too... "the beautiful people" is a totally listenable hardrock song too. i'd personally listen to "the beautiful people" on repeat for a whole trip than actually have to listen to all the tracks songs on "portriat of an american family" that i think are filler, which is most of the album... idk.. i'm just saying, i don't see why manson fans couldn't just have a couple beers and check out something different like arab on radar, like even if it's not their thing, i'd thik it'd be interesting. i can personally sit through like any type of live music... idk.
i totally get the manson fans just wanting to see an epic rock concert... idk, doesn't come across as cool to me though... not trying to say anybody that listens to manson albums on repeat is bad or anything, i'm thinking of the word palatable and music might be like grids that fit different minds. manson's music is totally hit or miss to me though, like some of it really hits me the wrong way.... i'm guessing the manson fan's saw gonzo get booed off stage on the muppets as kids and wanted to recreate the experience for them. who knows. lol
