"Admittedly my concentration is poor sometimes..."

Also, I forgot:
If you think that your concentration is poor, then what are you concentrating on? You always have a focus of attention. What are you focusing on? External data? Internal data? Whatever it is, it is relevent non-the-less.

i've always never been able to get shit memorized when im high, even if its just a little. my roomate smokes every time he pulls all nighters though, this is because it makes it more bearable. he said it just takes a while to get used to it.

now you guys have said that it helps because your interested. this has usually been over a 2 hour time period. most of my tests i study for about 10 hours for. some finals I will study 20-30 hours for, usually this means all nighters. do you guys think that smoking would really help for sessions as long as these?

i've also noticed that pot helps me concentrate a lot better much of the time. i get really bad anxiety when i'm sober, and i fidget and get very bored with the subject matter unless i'm super interested in it already. a couple tokes just takes the edge off and allows me to chill and be more content with the boring bullshit i'm having to take in.

a lot of my friends have noticed bad memory loss over the years from blazing, and i know this is a common reaction, and it in fact works this way for the majority of cannabis users. i, however, have never noticed any memory loss, long or short term, with myself. but, perhaps this is because i've always, uhh, well been smarter than most of my peers, and have an incredible memory for the most part.

and also everyone should keep in mind that there's a HUUUUGE difference between how pot affects a daily user compared to how it affects a more occasional user.

Zoad you talk some sense, but you had to with all the word you wrote. In the past my concentratio has been poor because I've been concentrating on myself alot, MJ used to make me very introspective. But I've worked all that shit out now and my concentration is much better, even when high.

I still forget things though. I was walking out of my flat this morning, congratulating myself on my improved memory until i realise that I'd forgotten my wallet and couldn't get back in.

I'm a daily pot user, wake 'n' bake is my game so I'm not familiar with the sober feeling. But Zoad, you may be right. It's all in my head.

Pinning stickit notes to my wall is something I'm looking into, so i can keep my idea in one place, and retrieve them when they are lost. Learnt this from dustin hoffman, man's got a bad memory.

I type out concepts making sure they are understood. I try to be as accurate and truthfull as possible when translating my thoughts into text. I use the words I do so that the text fits the concept as closely as possible, and I will re-explain things to make sure that the idea is definitely portrayed. This is the reason for the long entries.

Cunning Linguist, I'm sorry you chose to forget your wallet to learn humiliation, but it is something we all go through. Memory loss can be tough, so stay in the game, keep it sharp! focused! and go strait for the goal! Kick humiliation's ass! Don't worry man, we got your back!

...ya, so, ok, I've used pot in just about every way imaginable. I have an income, connections, and environment capable of making sure that I stay completely immersed in pot culture. This is how much I love the stuff, and I will continually defend it's innocent nature. As long as I write in these forums I will continually write,"Pot relaxes you, you create your perception" in so many different forms because I know this to be the most basic of pot's reality. If you look at everyone's experiences and try to explain all of them, this is one explination that makes the most sense. Memory is never lost, hypnosis at least shows that. We forget things all the time, only to remember them again. Just cause we forgot them once doesn't mean they're completely gone. And furthermore, if we really forgot something, then how would we ever know we forgot it if the memory of it completely vanished? What I'm saying is: We don't loose knowledge... it's how we choose to access it that counts... I do believe there is something called "state dependant memory"...

learn the concept of time and place.
there is a time and place for everything.
right before finals or if you have a large project at work etc. is not the time and place to smoke weed.
some stoners have a problem with this concept. i used to, but now that i have come to this realization, i live a better life with fewer weed related mishaps

Zoad, thank you for your very informative posts. I don't really have much to extend on this issue, except agree with your points. You DO create your perception, and you do need to use the power of your mind to enhance your environment.

Pot gives you amazing ability to concentrate, now.. this may not be that easy when multi-tasking, as other thought may pop into the brain and throw you off track.. BUT.. If you are doing ONE thing at a time, you have WAY more focus on that one task than usual. Be it creative wrioting, homework/assignments, I don't really want to add driving, as I still think people should not drive on drugs or alcohol, but I've heard from many experienced people they drive alot better on it, as long as no one is distracting them. You can even use all your weed induced focus for something like music, or a movie. and get totally lost in it. You just need to learn the mindframe and harness the power of weed concentration.

I've found I have gone really, really good in college exams/assignments, and then sometimes, really bad because something is on my mind. Some deep breaths and making myself focus normally fixes this. But in the end it is upto how strong your mind is, and how well you can control it.

According to a book I just read (physiology for medical students) recollection of memorized data happens most fluently when the overall state of mind is closest to the state in which the memorization happened.
I'm all for utilizing highs by studying, but it would seem that it's best to not get wasted beyond belief before reading, because then you'd have to be even more stoned in the test. ;)

Well put, Splatt, thank you.

I am not going to say who is right and who is wrong because we are all right. All of our experience is valid for the mindset we hold to. Switch to another mindset and you may experience a whole other validity. This is not mystic flimflam...we switch mindsets all the time, even when "sober". Drugs offer us the most obvious switches, though.

We are not going to argue with a tripper that there isn't a pink dragon in the sky, yet from his viewpoint it is just as valid and real as the sun or moon.

So, if a person says,"Pot makes me depressed, this is all it does," I will not deny that he is depressed, or that he is incorrect in that depression because he doesn't see the reason for it. From his viewpoint the depression is real and his viewpoint may not offer him the understanding to know the 'how' of the depression, but this is not bad or wrong. Someone may also say,"I get happy when I'm high," and I will say that the first man has no more of a plight than the second. It is your choice which direction you choose. People are just not used to recognizing that choice and thier actions happen automatically from what they've learned through society.

I know that for many, many people, smoking up before a test can be a bad choice just because of the automatic choices they use to control the high. I totally agree that if you are not comfortable with it, then don't do it! But I will continue to hold that even multi-tasking can be preformed quite effortlessly when high...I've done it many times. And please don't ask for a method, it is like asking for a method to use your eyes. What matters is what you choose to choose (it almost loses meaning when I say it like that: choose, chooooose, chooooooose...:).

So, what I'm saying is: everyone here is right within thier perpective just as I view myself to be right within mine. I very well may be wrong with everything I say, and in many eyes I know I will be, but I still try to speak honestly within the limits of my perception.

(got way off topic. sorry, won't happen again. *applause* :)

I dunno, I retain about the same amount stoned or straight...If i'm straight, I think about getting high, so I never pay attention anyway =D

haha, its so true, all i think about when im sober is when the next time is that im gonna get high and how

things that i learn when im high i dont remember unless im high usually so at school it doesnt matter because i hadnt gone to school not high for like 5 months or something so i was always high during the same class. alot of people dont believe that i smoke because of my intelligence its funny cuz im usually high as shit when they say that i dont smoke

I always carry a memo pad around in my back pocket to write down things i notice high or not. Its really very handy, i can even tell what my stoned writings are by there nearly unrecognizable handwriting attributes. But yeah listening to a cd where i had lots of ideas when i was stoned on, i mean listening to it when you are clean helps me remember the thoughts i had earlier when i was stoned.

When I first started out I found it very easy to reamember almost everything I did when I had huge laugh attacks and everything but now I can't only little caption and if i really try to reamember. I have a freind however that smokes before tests because she thinks it makes her do better I don't know if thats true but it works for her!

Personaly, at first, when I first started smoking, I would forget full blocks of time. Any time I would zone out, that section of time would be void (concerning the events around me). Even internal events would be screwy. I would try to set my alarm clock and it would take me way, way, longer than usual just because I would do stuff like:
"OK..."
"Um, OK..."
"So, all I gotta do is, um..."
"So, first, I press this button, and... um..."
"Uh..."
"What am I doing? ... Thats right, ok, um..."
"This button and I click this one until..."
"Until..."
"Uh, what?"
"Hold on, what time do I need to get up at?"
...

But that never happens anymore. I found out that I was usually just fighting myself most of the time. After I got over that and allowed myself to just flow with the action, everything happened smoothly, even if I didn't comprehend what I was doing. All I have to do is state my intent, my direction, and set my body in motion. Then my body does the rest, right in front of my astonished eyes. Its like picking up an object with a numb hand: you can't feel the object, and you can see that its in your hand, but your hand isn't giving any feed-back on the matter. You give your hand the intent and it follows faithfully even though it doesn't know what its doing.

Also on the subject, I've played guitar enough for me to be able to improv somewhat. So one day I got blazed out of my mind and picked up the ol' six-string. I started to play and it was the most amazing thing: the notes sounded great, they all fit together and stuff, but I had no clue what I was doing on the guitar. I just sat there and watched my fingers dance around on the fret board, producing this great music, all without my awareness having to intrude. But when I tried to concentrait on what I was doing, everything went downhill: I fumbled around, I didn't know what to play next, etc.

My point is, I guess, is to just state your intent, set your body into motion and just trust that the outcome will be what you wanted. Thats all I do anyways:) And if that doesn't work, then hey, the outcome couldn't have been much different than if you actually tried to focus on what you needed to do!
