Making sure an RC vendor is legit... not scam etc...

Without referencing any sites or prices or anything of the nature because it is not allowed, I have found several potential vendors that can supply a number of chemicals for research purposes. However, before I ever consider ordering, I would like to make sure I am not getting ripped off or scammed or worse. How to know if its legit. What are steps other people take to make sure that their RC vendor is legit and will sell pure chemicals, in a legal, and professional manor. How to tell if it is a scam to steal money? Are there particular things you go through or particular things you look for to tell you how legit it is?

Please no discussion of vendor sites etc... I don't wanna get this thread shut down and get in trouble. Only strategies for knowing if vendors are legit with no particular references please!
