My lungs

For about three and a half weeks now I've been coughing up gray/ black/ green/ white/ clear/ yellow shit. I wheeze when I breathe in cause there's shit blocking my airways and then I have to cough it up. I went to the doctor and got an x-ray of my chest. Apparently I have a really bad case of bronchitis and perhaps slight pneumonia.

I'm generally a pretty fit and healthy person although I smoked cigarettes for 9 years, quit about a year ago but continue to smoke tobacco mixed with weed on a regular basis.

Started smoking weed mixed with damiana recently in an attempt to avoid further damaging my insides.

I coughed up some blood today. They said not to worry unless that happened.

Is this fucking normal?

I'm coughing up about a liter of multi-colored mucous per day and I feel dizzy sometimes as if I'm about to pass out.

The doctors (I got a second opinion) didn't seem to be too concerned about my condition but I just don't feel like this is normal. I'm only 26 and I do a lot of exercise. I don't usually get sick. I don't get it.

Should I get a CT scan of my lungs or something?

Am I paranoid?

you should be on antibiotics for this, sounds bacterial to me. I had that years ago, not smoking related though.

Bed rest, fluids, panadol for fever, sleep in a raised position, and maybe ventolin to help you get air in your lungs.

You generally cough up phlegm for ages after smoking anything rather than during smoking for some reason.

You gotta give the smoking a break bro, maybe nicotine patches or something else like that will help- but if you are not on antibioyics get some stat!@

If you have not talked to the Doctor since coughing up blood do give her/him a call. Zephyr covered the essentials of getting better from bronchitis.

Cysteine has been said to raise lung immunity and help clear out phlegm. An expectorant, lots of fluids and steam can help you clear things out much faster. Even healthy fit people don't usually shake bronchitis very quickly once its settled in.

I caught the same last year after a festival where I was living in the most unhealthy way possible for 4 days, its just a lung infection and will go away with suitable antibiotics. Also, I don't think its smoking related, anyone can catch this although smokers are a bit more prone. No need to worry, just get the suitable meds from the doctor and you will recover. I was given a course of antibiotics and it went away, even with me contunuing to smoke rather heavily.

I am no means any authority on this sort of thing but I think you might be doing what i was doing after i took 2cb.
If this problem has been going for a while then its probably serious. Some things to consider for yourself are; is it you forcing it out through the top of your lungs or is does it come on like a chesty cough?
I'd definately give up smoking if you havent already, the first ten or so weeks you will definately keep coughing but after that your lungs should regenarate the lining.
Have you done any psychedelic drugs ie 2cb? Drugs like these can make little holes in your blood vessels and lungs etc, but they heal within a matter of months.
Hope you get better, your problem sounds grim

Agh; the exact reason I chose to kick tobacco. When you mix tobacco with your weed, do you use the same processed shit that they put into cigarettes? The fiberglass in that, which is intended to make the nicotine hit you faster by making microscopic cuts in your lungs through which it may enter the bloodstream, can bring about symptoms akin to those you describe.

At least for the time being, I personally would not recommend you to smoke anything. This is your body you're fucking with.

If I were you, I would still smoke the ganj once this bloody mess is resolved. Tobacco, however, would be a no-no.

"This is your body you're fucking with." I dunno if you know this, but... just incase you don't, the correct way to say that is (This is your body that you're fucking with). A lot of people don't know that there is a that in those types of sentences. Sorry if I am talking for no reason! Heheh :D

You're a smoker of many things who just got brochitus. It's normal to cough up lots of stuff that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. My advice would be to let your lungs purge themselves. Once you're feeling better, I would smoke weed and only weed if you still wish to. If you keep coughing up blood, call a doctor and let them decide what tests, if any, you need.

I get bronchitis/pneumonia very often from snorting dope...probably once every three months. It was always exacerbated by smoking cigarettes.

It does sound like a pretty classic case of these diseases, as far as I have experienced. That is probably why your doctor doesn't seem too worried. It definitely sounds like you need to get on some antibiotics and possibly some steroids like prednisone.

If it doesn't go away after this, then I would look into getting x-rays or something. You might also look into if you have asthma. I never had trouble breathing until using drugs, and the doctor said I probably had a slight underlying asthma that I made come to light with the smoking and snorting.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Apologies for a tl'dr. I've said what I needed to say but I know it's irritating to read a fucking novella when you're looking for the meat of the thread. * *

Begin book: Sorry, I didn't read every post in this thread (I'm a bit faded), but is it possible that you've been dabbling in opiates lately? If you quit opiates, once the associated respiratory depression ceases, all types of crap comes up from your lungs. I've had this happen every time I've quit using opiates. It's like I develop bronchitis as soon as I get the opiates out of my system.

For the record, I never have gotten a flu or a cold while ingesting opiates daily. I think that's part of the problem: everyone gets sick, but if you're a junkie your drugs are usually suppressing the symptoms of your virus/flu/cold so you do stay free from the effects of the infection but... if you quit using opiates, all kinds of lung symptoms seem to leap to the front having been suppressed by the use of the ultimate cough-suppressant: opium.

The resulting bronchitis is real so I get myself to the doctor and they hit me up with anti-biotics and an albuterol inhaler. I never suffer lung ailments when I'm taking opiates but I can sense the damage that's occurring down in there while my system ignores it.

The positive side of this is that straight-up, intense aerobic exersize seems to clear up the problem very quickly. (and I'm almost 40 and have been smoking and doping and running for exercize for years). When I was younger and much healthier, after a few days of running (hawking up shit ever few minutes), my lungs would rectify themselves within a few days. Feels GREAT man.

So I guess my advice is to get running/swimming/ellipticalling/spinning/hard-core Ashtanga yoga'ing as soon as you can. I guarantee your lungs will be thanking you within days. Even if you're choking on your lung mucosa this advice will work. Might be a little difficult at first, but it will work

Oh yeah, if you have access to a sauna, or better yet, a reasonably-priced Japanese bath with massage, buy the longest bath/massage you can afford. (Ask your friends for recommendations as to practitioners. There's nothing as disappointing as spending close to $100 for a wimpy ass Swedish massage, when you need masterful deep-tissuework to combat your toxicity,) Recently I've been able to barter for massage/Japanese bath because the economy's so shit…service barter has become very popular in this town.

If you're like me you want the most experienced, intense shaitsu provider that you can get. After a serious. mind-blowing, session you may feel like shit for a day or two after they give you your treatment, with all of those toxins free and raging about your body. But after that you'll feel like you were just shat out from the universe's happiest womb. Feels great man!

I also had good luck with using Respiratory Cleanse: a supplement for lung health. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact brand or formulation, but with a little research, you'll find a formulation that will work for you.

I should have answered your first concerns first. I wouldn't totally freak out over the color of the slime that's coming out of your lungs. I've experienced the same exact thing and once I quit smoking weed and switched to a vaporizer (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), all that grey, ochre, slightly bloody shit disappeared.

According to my doctor, the tiny amount of blood in my musuc/phlegm from my lungs (eck, I loathe the word "phlegm"; worse yet," moist phlegm") was just a product of the irritation I'd been causing my throat and lungs. Of course, if you're spewing huge chunks of blood that's a problem. But small flecks of blood in you mucus is totally normal if your lungs/air passages are aggravated from overuse.

I loathe doctors: egotistical, undereducated in patient skills, lacking life experience, but i think it might not hurt to go check in with a doc on this. At least you'll be able to stop worrying. And if you have a good doctor (1:250.000), you'll get the answers and the treatment you need.

Again, so sorry for the length and the repetitious nature of the post. Malt liquor = dreadfully bad motor mouth and ENDLESS typoes. Bleh. That's' why I tried to Boldface the important parts

Wish you the best, erin.

Ahh! Mixing tobacco with your weed totally destroys the niceness of the high, and it makes it so much worse for you. If you still wish to smoke after this is gone, I'd definitely stick to just weed, and even better, use a good quality vaporizer - then there's no harm at all.

But of course, for now, you need to stop smoking. Also, the colors that you mention make me think it sounds bacterial - an infection of some sort. Did the doctor check for that sort of thing at all? Sounds like a shitty doctor.

No they didn't check for shit! They said that I pretty much have to wait it out and that it could take a couple of months for the coughing to clear up... but I was struggling at work today. I don't think I can handle coughing like this for a couple more months.

What tests could they do to determine if it's bacterial?

Thanks for the responses everybody.

I'm swimming every day (my community pool also has a sauna so I'll check that out - thanks for the recommendation) and have been eating healthy. I quit smoking green today. But I'm still really worried. I don't trust doctors. They didn't look at my lung x-rays long enough. They just glanced at them and said 'yeah that looks alright'...

How the fuck do I find a good doctor?

I've had some oxycontin recently (past couple of months) but not much. Smoked some DMT, had a small amount of speed, ecstasy, acid, drank an enormous amount of alcohol and smoked a lot of weed mixed with tobacco and since I've been sick I've smoked a fair amount of Damiana which is supposed to help with bronchitis..

That doesn't work too great when you're not taking in air properly. Can be kind of dangerous if you push yourself too much too.

It's still great advice, just need to use with caution.

DMT is always quite irritating to my lungs, actually. It feels like it crystallizes in my throat and lungs. I would lay off that also until you get better. Also, I smoked damiana once, and man did that hurt. It certainly didn't feel like it would have been good for bronchitis.

I felt as if I was about to pass out while driving and stopped the car in the middle of a freeway offramp and started dry reaching and spitting up shit out of the window.

I'm starting to suspect that there's some crumbling asbestos in my kitchen above the stove. Maybe this has caused my illness.

How do I determine if it is actually asbestos?

If I take a photo of it and post it will any Bluelighters with experience in building, etc. be able to confirm what it is?

i've had breathing problems for going on 20 years... asthma, chronic bronchitis and heading towards copd because i still smoke like a freight train. i should probably tell you to quit smoking, but i won't be a hypocrite. i can however tell you what i know, and give you some advise.

multi-colored phlegm is normal with bronchitis. black, gray, and/or brown is old tar coming up out of your lungs from smoking (and often gets worse after you quit smoking). green or yellow means infection, and you should be on antibiotics. white or clear is harmless. coughing up blood could be as simple as the lining of your esophogous being irritated from all the hacking you're doing. is it just speckled in your phlegm, or is it alot? you should definitely tell your doctor about it though... maybe even cough up into a clean container to show them. every time i've been hospitalized for breathing problems the respiratory therapist always wants to see what i'm coughing up.

i've also passed out from coughing while driving, and actually wrecked my car. be very careful!! it's common to be dizzy and actually pass out when you're not beathing good, and you probably shouldn't be driving until you feel better. maybe have a friend or family member drive you if possible.

some tricks to help you breathe easier... get as much rest as you can, no strenuous activities. never lay flat, sleep elevated on a pillow or in a recliner. rub vicks on your chest and back and wrap yourself in clear plastic saran wrap. i know it sounds silly, but my mom did it when i was little, and it helps open you up and draw out the phlegm. drink hot tea with honey, it soothes your sore throat from coughing. hot coffee can help too... something about the heat and caffeine opens up the bronchial tubes. take a hot steamy shower. use a vaporizer. drink plenty of clear liquids, it's very important~! spit out what you cough up, don't swallow it. and try to cough up as much of that junk as you can... you want to get it all out of your lungs. keep the temp on the cooler side... it's harder to breathe when it's hot.

if you really think you may have asbestos in your kitchen, get it checked out by a professional. don't take any chances. if you're in an apartment tell management to have maintenance look at it. if you rent a house tell the landlord. if you own your home, call a professional to check it out... just look in the phonebook. if all else fails, call the city inspector. asbestos is nothing to mess with. it not only causes breathing problems, it can cause mesotheliomia, a cancer caused specifically by asbestos. i'm not sure it can identified by a photo alone.

hope some of this helps you out... i know all too well how bad it sucks not to be able to breathe and feel like you're suffocating cause you can't get enough air. hope you get to feeling better~!

My lungs get really bad sometimes due to the fact that im a pretty heavy smoker. I smoke over 40 ciggs in a day sometimes but lately ive been trying desperately to cut back because i don't want a repeat of last year. Around last spring i woke up with a pain in the chest so bad that i felt like someone had kicked me in the chest while wearing steal toe boots. It hurt to breath and i had alot of trouble getting a full breath in. This went away after about a day but i was still getting bad chest pains for a few weeks on and off and was coughing up the most horrible stuff ever.

But i didnt cough up blood so i don't know what caused all those symptoms. Maybe it was just some chest infection or something like that. I never did find out cause i didnt bother going to the doctor because i was horribly depressed at the time. I was not too concerned if i lived or died so i didnt bother getting myself checked out.

If you start to get worse go to the doc ASAP and make sure a good one looks at you. They nearly sent a friend of mine home from the ER even though he was almost passing out due to lack of oxygen when he had pneumonia so ya doctors can be real dumb. Get that asbestos looking stuff checked out by someone who can tell you if it is asbestos or not and make sure they arent a con artist either. After working for contracters for awile i can tell you that some of them are such schemie cunts that they would rip their own mother off.

tbh if i was coughing up blood no matter wat a doctor said, id go straight to the ER
cant hurt to get a proper chest x-ray

also id advise against smoking
saying that, im an asthmatic and i find smoking pot actually relaxes my airways and helps me breathe - other ppl i know with asthma hav said they hav had similar experiences
a vaporiser, as mentioned before, wud b even better

amphetamine use is also helpful in widening the airways, however the negatives of this outweigh the positives, esp long-term, obviously

dont overdo exercise - as karl said this can b dangerous

if ur getting dizzy, ur most likely not getting enough oxygen - so id go to either a more competent doctor (and fast) or get urself (preferably, with the blood ur coughing up) to the ER
yes, it cud just b throat irritation but better safe than sorry, eh

btw, mods feel free to send this back or onto a diffrent forum but i believe this belongs in healthy living - u might get some more qualified health experts there
gd luck
