Acid-Relatively Experienced- Pink Floyd Laser Light Show
After I got tickets to a Pink Floyd laser light show in Houston, I knew exactly which drug would be a perfect compliment. It was a wild ride, and here's how it went:
-0:45 Smoked a decent bit of weed on the way down to the show.
0:00 Took four hits of acid.
0:30 Wander aimlessly downtown, smoke a joint on the bayou.
0:40 Alert. First effects notcied while staring at a granite wall oustide. Continue comming up as we (a friend and I) enter the venue and kill some more time watching people, looking for other psychonauts.
1:45 The show begins, the trip is in full swing. The show consists of three screens up front, on which lasers, scenes from movies (The Wizard of Oz, the Wall) and other interesting visuals are displayed while Floyd music is played. The announcer at the beginning seems to be talking about the show we are about to experience as if it is an acid trip. "Some of you may be knew to this, some of you have been doing it for thirty years. But if you see someone, in the aisles, at the concessions, who is having the experience, give them a knowing hug." Am I imagining the parallels? Who else here is tripping with me?
2:15 The most insane come up of my life. The beginning of the show rocketed me into another universe. Some of the opening chordes of time sounded like the voice of God. I became convinced all the people in the theater were now on another plane of existence, having left the world behind. I recalled what Shulgin said in PiHKAL about music being a four dimensional entity, and began to "see" time as the fourth dimension. I here some of the people in the audience talking to me, urging me to push my trip to the limits with them. Actually, it was more of a collective voice comming from the audience itself.
They gave us two sets of glasses to wear during the show. One of them is much like a kaliedescope, multiplying the images on screen and filtering out everything else. These were just too much for me, so I left them off. The others were 3-D glasses, which don't work for those of us with one eye, so I don't have anything to say about them.
2:30 A little paranoia sets in. I think it was brought on by the song "Mother" which has always beena little emotional for me. There is no way everyone around me can not know what I am going through, I repeatedly ask my friend, "are we okay? are we doing allright?" These feelings, along with other anxiety, continue until the show ends.
3:00 (or so) The show ends. The trip goes down by several degrees as soon as the lights come up. Laugh at some man whose wife is trying desperately to rouse him. He is in his seat, nearly unconcious, unable to move. I feel for him. As we are leaving, I exchange a few "knowing glances."
+3 We go back to a friends place and trip lightly for the next few hours, nothing worth mentioning. Copious amounts of cannabis and hydrocodone make for a nice, gentle comedown.
All in all, it was a mind blowing experience. It felt like my brain tripped as hard as possible during the show, and was completely speant after wards. I very nearly stepped comletely out of the trip as I stood up after the show, but some residual effects lasted for a while, as I said above. Musically, it was phenominal, they played most of Dark Side (stopped around Time), Hey You, Comfortably Numb, Mother, Wish You Were Here, Another Brick in the Wall, and probably a few others I can not remember. Definately the most intense visual experience of my life, you better believe I kept those glasses!
