Hey all,

I'm 21 years old, 6'1, and at the moment, around 102kg (224 pounds?) and I'm trying to lose some body fat. I started a well known weight loss program about 3.5 weeks ago and so far I've lost close to 7kgs. :)

Just wondering if everyone here has some pointers that can help me out. I'm not talking about "get your diet right and exercise".. as that's obvious, and what I'm trying to do... just some tips on some good foods, exercises, time to exercise (on empty stomach?) ect. ect.

I'm currently on around 8400kj a week. I usually have 2 'meals' I supposed you could call them, (lunch & dinner) and the rest is fruit/veges. I also drink about 2.5 litres of water a day.

I am a smoker, though not heavy, I can tell it has affected my health. I've started running/jogging most days. Around 15 mins in the early morning, and 15 at night. I plan to up the intensity, and distance as I get fitter.

I also try to do pushups, bicep curls, crunches, bench press and flys most days.

Am I correct in saying a high protein, low carb diet is best? If so, what are some foods with good protein in them? I would go and see a nutritionist, though there isn't one where I live.

I am also about to start a cycle of clen for the first time. (gel) and would also be good to get some pointers on that :)

Another thing, I work 12hr shifts in an underground coal mine, and the way our shifts are structured, we really only get one break a day (1hr) I try to eat small meals (fruit ect.) throughout the day, though it is hard.

Sorry for rambling on, but thanks for having a read and any help/constructive critisim would be great!

p.s has anyone used 'Hydroxycut'?
Cheers.

Why wait until you're fitter to increase the intensity of your cardio? If you always train at a higher intensity you will get fitter faster and lose more weight.

Hydroxycut got banned in the states for having an ingredient that caused liver damage- I'd stay away.

The most important thing you could do to lose fat is to up your number of meals and cut down the sizes of them. This can be hard to fit around work/school but if your dedicated you can usually find a way. Eating more frequently will increase your metabolism and speed up weight loss. Try getting some protein bars (or something with protein in it) so your snacks are a more complete meal.

Cutting out sugars is a good start - so make sure your meals are something like steak with sweet potato or tuna with wholemeal pasta/noodles. Brown rice is also a very good source of carbs. Protein sources are generally meats- tuna, chicken, steak are good. I eat a lot of eggs also. Other things that are less obvious are nuts, soy beans, quinoa.

Doing your exercise on an empty stomach will help- try doing 45 mins in the morning rather than 15 mins both morning and night.

Thanks for your replies guys. I really appreciate it.

Ranunky, the only reason I'm going that distance/intensity is because I've just started exercising again, and it feels like I'm going to have a heart attack! Though, I suppose, no pain, no gain!

p-mo, thanks for being so informative mate :)
