I have been drinking as the title mentioned, an absolute minimum of 250mls of RedBull every day just to feel normal. I was totally addicted, then quit cold turkey and haven't touched another one for about 5 months. I'm just wondering if there are any long term effects of that anyone might be aware of/have experienced.

Ta.

I don't think long term effects have been studied to great length... and as far as personal experience I never used them long enough to notice anything. Mainly I think the concern would be due to dehydration, here is an interesting blurb I found from this article:

Caffeine works by blocking the effects of adenosine, a brain chemical involved in sleep. When caffeine blocks adenosine, it causes neurons in the brain to fire. Thinking the body is in an emergency, the pituitary gland initiates the body's "fight or flight" response by releasing adrenaline. This hormone makes the heart beat faster and the eyes dilate. It also causes the liver to release extra sugar into the bloodstream for energy. Caffeine affects the levels of dopamine, a chemical in the brain's pleasure center. All of these physical responses make you feel as though you have more energy.

Energy drinks are generally safe, but like most things, you should drink them in moderation. Because caffeine is a stimulant -- consuming a lot of it can lead to heart palpitations, anxiety and insomnia -- it also can make you feel jittery and irritable. Over time, caffeine can become addictive. It is also a diuretic -- it causes the kidneys to remove extra fluid into the urine. That leaves less fluid in the body. so drinking an energy drink while you're exercising can be particularly dangerous. The combination of the diuretic effect and sweating can severely dehydrate you.

Yeah i used to drink 3-5 cans of that a day just stopped... i just get superrrrrrrrrrr tired

Hmm glad Im not the only one who is seemingly addicted to these lol. I also drink around 250mls a day if not more.
Somedays I like having another one towards the end of the day. I wish I could buy the small gas station size ones in bulk instead of these regular sized ones. I like having them, but I dont like how much money I pay, for how much I waste in a can. I usually only drink half of it before it tastes like shit hehehe.

As far as long term effects go I havent really noticed any, but the description that euphoria gave practically sums it up.

Oh also, does anyone know why they put taurine in it? my friend was a vet assistant and said taurine was a chemical or something that you get from raw meats, forgot exactly what they said but they didnt know why it was in there. Is it just another "energy supplement"?

Caffeine isn't the only thing in redbull, you have to take that into account. Long term high sugar intake can be problematic.

EDIT: And to your question about taurine; Taurine is implicated in long-term-potentiation in the brain, which is a process by which neurons remember certain things and are able to fire with more power. Basically, it aids in memory. Also, taurine might work as an antianxiety.

I used to drink 8-12 a day and quit cold turkey fuck that hurt me I had some serious withdrawal I have found I get tired alot now days but other then that I found no real lasting side affects or issues. I drink alot of water though so I never dehydrated ( roughly 4-5 litres a day because we get temps of 34+ with 80% humidity)

I just stick to coffee now for my caffeine fix. Used to drink about 6 cups a day, and now down to 2 or 3, and noticed some tiredness at first. If I remember correctly I think that taurine stuff in red bull has some effect on the heart, but I may be wrong.
