Does anybody play League of Legends? I recently started playing it, and it's pretty fucking badass. My computer is from the stone age though, so the graphics aren't all that great on my monitor. Imo, it's way less confusing than DOTA.

Hey man,

I havn't actually played LoL, but I'm a massive fan of HoN. If you haven't hear of it, it's basically the same thing: just a new, improved version of DOTA. From what I've read and seen, I think I'll stick to HoN, but might give league of legends a try soon as well... If you ever start playing, send me a message and we'll play a game together :D

I've probably played about 700 matches of LOL over the past year. I had fun for awhile but I cannot deal with the 'community' anymore and the MM system doesn't work like it should. My pre-season rating was 1760 and I played like 100 matches in season 1 and my rating plummeted from 1200 to 1000 because every game I had a leaver. I managed to climb back to 1300 but then another wave of leavers hit me and I lost like 100 more points and just gave up. I don't have the time to meet a bunch of people on there and get a premade together and solo queueing is just such a nightmare, I finally just uninstalled. There's nothing worse than going 10-0 early game, having 20 stacks on Mejai as Annie and your team can't pull themselves together and are all 0-5 or worse. The skill level of a lot of players is just so awful and I can't be bothered to spend 45 minutes of my life gambling on whether my team will be halfway competent or just running around with no awareness at all.

/endrant.. haha.. great game though.. I'm just way too competitive and don't have the time to truly commit to it. :(

Yeah, I play League quite often. I love to play tanks such as Cho'Gath and Amumu and basically fulfill the role of a huge annoying wall, although recently I've been getting several triple kills a game w/ Amu. My username is Suitcases if you ever want to play some games.

Fuck this shit, dota4lyfe.

I gave it an honest shot, but it just feels like a dumbed down kiddie version of dota to me. It doesn't have the hero selection and balance that dota has gained over the 100 or so versions.

no way, its way more balanced than dota. in fact I'd say of the entire thing there's only 2 slightly above average power chars and a few below. everybody else is right around the same level. dota was insanely imbalanced.. troll, mortred? there were no counters to them late game.. they just stomped

I play dota in a closed semi-competitive league.

You never EVER EVER see pros pick heroes like mortred or troll. They are garbage until minute 25 or so when they farm up good items. They dont bring anything good to the table except OMFGDAMAGE. The few times i've seen pros pick heroes like that they get ganked to shit by people with ranged stuns and disables.

Dota is balanced because you have carries (ie phantom lancer) that shine late game, and early gamers (crystal maiden) that support and gank early so the other heroes can be more powerful.

I do like some of the innovations LoL brings to the table. The grass that you can hide out in is kinda cool. However the whole, bring the RPG character building aspect to dota doesnt fly at all with me. Part of the appeal of dota is that you can start up a game and everyone is at square one, its the decisions you make during the game to counter your opponents that wins, not the "build" you selected ahead of time.

Ok, maybe dota isnt really balanced 100% but its head and shoulders above a game like HoN or LoL, which have no real meta game.

Which is exactly the point. Competitive play is like 1% of the player base. Dota was a pub stomping nightmare because mortred and troll were a guaranteed win after 25 mins and people couldn't be expected to carry with 80% of heroes.

Not to mention item scaling was completely out of control. Heroes in LOL are way more balanced.. there's no hero that can 1v3 let alone 1v5 them like a fed phantom lancer.

There's so much to LOL that's superior to Dota. Matchmaking for one thing. You simply couldn't play games in Dota with the general public. Every game had a leaver. Arranged games were possible but who had time for that? Being able to simply log in, connect, and play a match that (prior to season 1) had a 99.9% chance of no leavers and was relatively balanced and allowed you to reconnect was awesome.

Oh and runes and masteries aren't that powerful. They add like 300gold worth of starting stats to your character. Everybody is level 30 anyway so it's an even playing field.

The league im in counts wins and losses and gives players rating just like in LoL, so you rarely see leavers (one of the biggest annoyances in public games for sure).

Like I said some of the new innovations are good, like the reconnect feature. But at the end of the day i just find dota to be a more enjoyable game to play.

Ya, but we all know the most important time to have a slight advantage is early game, so that "small" advantage more often than not is the deciding factor in the early laning phase.

Agree to disagree I guess.

Personally im waiting for Dota 2, the game that icefrog is developing with valve (the same company that made cs). That will be the true successor to dota IMO.
