if someone was visiting, and they wanted to try something unique to your area, where would you take them?

cleveland has a very large hungarian population which means great hungarian food. such as chicken paprikash, which is roast chicken, homemade dumplings and a sauce made from cream and paprika.

cleveland also has a large polish population and has several great perogie stands. pierogies are generally potato and cheese filled pasta shells that are fried with onions and butter.

For fine dining I'd go to Greens a high class vegetarian spot right on a warehouse pier in the San Francisco Bay amazing view of the GG Bridge.

For cheap good on the go food Tacqueria El Farolito's for wicked burritos and quesadillas.

well, not that anyone from Australia actually eats this stuff regularly, but i would obviously take people to eat Crocodile, Kangaroo and Emu ... although the places where you can get these dishes are dissapearing fast ... most commonly it is a really, really upscale restaurants that have this available as it needs to be cooked properly or it tastes horrible!

more appropriately however; a visit to Australia would not be complete without eating a Chiko Roll or a Lamington ...

my old suburb of Newtown (sydney) had a longish street that contained no less than around 30 Thai restaurants ... definately the best place for Thai food outside Thailand ...

right now though, im in the 'Paella' capital of the world (Valencia, Spain) ... didnt really rate the dish beforehand, but now ive had it cooked properly, it isn't too bad at all ...

Theres this really good place in Carlsbad, CA called "Al's Cafe" and they have the Carlsbad Waffle there pretty bomb.

^yum! next time i'm up in wisconsin let's go get some of those deep fried cheese curds :D

in kansas city, mo...

i'd have to take you to Eden Alley, this amazing vegetarian restaurant (even meat eaters like it! :p), my favorite indian restaurant Korma Sutra, and to the Thai Place for some noodles. oh yeah and to Jerusalem Cafe for some delicious grub and hookah smoking. hmmm...this thread is making me hungry!

I'm in Jerzy...so whatever they damn well please.=D

Actually, that was a rather arrogant(but true) post, so I would probably take them to an old school diner. Diners are the shit.

I had a friend bring some Leinenhugel's to my house once, it was definately interesting!!

shutterbug already mentioned some good restaurants in KC. and of course we are known for Barbeque...Gates, Arthur Bryants and Jack Stack are the best. We also have some fabulous locally owned Italian restaurants

Neptune's Net, just north of LA on the Pacific Coast Highway.

I love the concept -- any fish you want, fried in a basket with fries. And it's the best fried fish I've ever had. They also have those clam chowder bread bowls. And it sits right across from the beach on the Pacific Coast Highway. You can't go wrong -- it's my ultimate comfort food.

there are more resturants per capita than any other city in Indiana so it's kind of take your pick alot of them are fast food types but there is good Mexican, Korean, Greek, Indian,Chinese, Japonese, Cajun and an awesome diner or two to get your down home breakfast on.

hell yea....id have to do the same.....diners are the ultimate jerz dining ezperience. good ol burgers and fries with gravy and you sit up all night drunk at the diner.

other than that it be all about the REAL italian restaurants. id take em to E&V's Ristorante on chamberlain ave in Paterson. I laughed when i read "we have some good local italian restaurants" from someone in kansas city. no offense to whoever wrote that but that is a joke. thats like saying theres a great little place for fresh-caught seafood in the middle of idaho. ;)

Word. That was going to be my second choice:Italian Restaurants. There is no other US Italian Restaurant like a New Jersey Italian restaurant. No prep, no smoke and mirrors, just some good ol' oversized portions of real Italian food! There's like three good ones depending on the size of your wallet that are on the same block in Scotch Plains!

Good call lacey!
