I gave up drinking on the tenth of last month for good and I also gave up pork. That might be for good as well.

Today I burned two New York strip steaks until they were nothing as a burnt sacrifice in the name of the Lord.

Are any of you fasting for lent or making some other Lenten sacrifice?

seems everytime i sacrifice something i go through withdrawals. this seems a daily occurence as i also feel that i am in a sorta constant withdrawal. hard to explain for me but been this way for many a year.is lent a catholic rite or more broad?

It’s a Roman Catholic thing but some of the other denominations do follow it. I was raised Methodist and we did.

I think I would like to give up the F word for lent. I say it entirely too much.

I need to put a rubber band on my wrist and snap it everytime I say it: Operant conditioning

Lent already started and without this post I would have let it blow by and gave up nothing, so thank you!

Would that count? Or does it need to be a physical thing you give up?

I don't see physical as the requirement.

Like, time spent on any pastime for example. A pleasure. Can be immaterial to a degree.

And there is ofc always the mostpart of even so seen material experiences being immaterial, involving the mind where all experience lies ultimately.

I'm Catholic 'affiliated', i.e. wife and kids. So at beginning of lent I gave up:

1. No meat on Fridays. I'm pretty sure this is customary Catholic lent practice because we do it every year. I didn't actually choose this one, I just go with the flow at home.

2. This is my own lent thing. No wakee bakee weekdays or pot smoking during the day before 5:00 p.m. weekdays. There's absofreakinglutely no way I'm going completely marijuana free for 40 days right now but I was getting a little liberal with smoking the 30%+ indica strains they apparently sell everywhere in recreational shops nowadays where I live. That at least has been my experience - endless strains and endless 1/8ths (concentrates and vapes too if that's your thing) - shops galore - all you need to do is pay for it. If you have the money to afford it, and I do, you can buy it whenever you want. So I do. Anyway, in my contrition, I bought some 20%- shake that tastes like hay and doesn't get me that high. I smoke in the evenings and on weekends but even that's problematic because my wife and kids don't like it so I keep it on the QT.

Yeah, 👍 I think giving up the F word is great!

That’s good on ya 👍🏽👍🏽

I’m a very lapsed catholic and had completely forgotten about Lent. I should have used the occasion to focus my giving up efforts on what I’m always giving up: stimulants, erectile dysfunction drugs, pussy by the hour, career hopes, and any semblance of normality.

Is it over yet?

Lent isn't over yet. Not until Easter. You've still got time to do it if you want to. 👍

That’s not what this party needed to hear at 4:36 AM. Even after I translated it into Chinese and gave a brief explanation of Catholicism, repentance, and self-denial.

I think I’m gonna give up being crabby and irritable. I’m not that way towards other people I’m that way towards myself. But wow can I mumble under my breath all those obscenities. Ha ha

But in the great words of Jesus Christ, it does not matter what you put in your mouth, it matters what comes out.

Hope everyone's lent is going okay. I gave up smoking pot during the day on weekdays so now I smoke only in the evenings during the week. Unfortunately that makes my pot smoking really obvious to my wife and she's complained a couple times since then. I thought about insisting on my right as an adult to smoke pot on my own property then though better of it. Ugh. What a pain. Oh well, I've been wanting to cut down anyway.
