Ran a search and couldn't find a discussion on this before so here goes my first post dat aint a reply...Gday Bluelighsters...Basically I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who thinks mdma should be legalised and as Im writing this doh..I realise you all will. What I mean maybe, is there anyone out there who thinks that there is a realistic chance of it if a decent case for it was put together....As far as I know mdma is not (that) neurotoxic if taken on its own and together with damage reducing measures such as pre/post loading on 5-htp>and if you eat certain foods and generaly act healthy. Surely then, in order to save a brain damaged society in the future caused by people taking god knows what neurotoxic combinations in their pills at the moment, wouldn't be sensible for the government to sell mdma packs containing some mdma and some 5-htp or something? People could be assesed on weight/sex etc as to what dosage they require and they get a color coded credit card thingy which they take to the cigarette department of supermarkets where they swipe the card and buy what the card says they are allowed to. There would be limits on the amount of purchases you can make eg 1 hit a month max. the cards and packs could be colour coded according to dosage strenght so they fit in quite nicely next to one of the governments current money making drus.
Wouldn't this make what is going to be done anyway safe by regulating each persons dosage so they cant purchase to much and including saftey procedures on the pakagingetc and by stopping people from eating seriousley fuked up neurotoxic combos in there pills>come on Johny Howard, I know your reading, get on the case mate....

Did anyone understand this post? Has anyone tried pushing this before or even discussed it with authoritiesetc. Any one agree this may be a reality or am i just dreaming whilst all of ya are laughing?

This sounds eerily like Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World' - Good idea perhaps, but huge problems in controlling supply and addiction, etc.....
Keep thinking is my advice

Hey Gumby, welcome to bluelight! I'm new here too...
BTW You made some pretty good points, and oooer what an interesting society it would be... however your "1 hit a month max" idea for the mdma packs...
Doesn't that ruin the fun of just being able to get your hands on a pill when you want for that special occasion, or whatever? This kind of system would in a way 'take away the freedom' even though it were legalized, because this 'society' you have envisaged is still placing a limit / rationing on it. Once again, it's back to the black market, which would however be flooded with real pharmaceutical grade mdma pills, similar to prescription amphetamines in today's society.... (eg the (OoOo so black)black market for dexamphetamines... etc)
Damn, I'm starting to picture your world and get now, I'll stop typing now and return to reality here :=)

Do some research on the net.
MDMA was legal in the late 70's early 80's, not too sure exactly. It was used by psychiatrists in marriage counselling etc in the US.
It was administered in small dosages around the 40mg mark.
The banning of this substance was when it became a black market drug after the "word got around" on the streets, and there was no real medical benifit from it anyway.(So they say!)
search and you will find the whole truth and the very interesting history of MDMA.

There have been heaps of posts about legalisation of drugs. The main gist of the matter is that it would be possible, all they have to do is have gov't sanctioned and approved drug manufacturing/sales. That way, the black market would still be illegal and it would fall apart. The reasons for this is that legal drugs would be cheaper, cleaner and without risk of jailtime/police harassment. It would also unleash a wave of drug related scientific research which would greatly improve how we see the human mind/bio make up. Over all, in victoria, 70% of the prisoners are in there due to drug related crime. So the legality of drugs, even if it is just soft drugs, would greatle improve the social health as a whole, but also take presure off the police and also tax. The tax part would be due to less money put into enforcement/prisons and more money from tax on drug sales.
This wont happen anytime soon however. coz drugs is a great political hook that brings votes. It also gives those in control the ability to put vast amounts of money into controling/policing the population. Incast u havent noticed private prisons/policing is the recent industrial revelution in the US and it is spilling over into Oz. I think like 20% of our prisons are privately owned, this is big business. In fact the whole drug war is a cashcow for politicians and institutions, they make more money out of having drugs illegal then they would if drugs were legal. So we da people just have to deal with it, theres just too much anti- drug propeganda out there for them to suddenly say that only SOME drugs are bad. Coz there ALL bad... remember?

sorry if anyone is offended-in no way am I comparing fucked up heroin to beautifull ecstacy

I agree with what has been said.
However extreme caution would need to be taken.
People would have to be educated properly. IMO MDMA is quite possibly the MOST damaging drug, in terms of altering brain chemistry etc.
Flame me if you will but there are very good reasons why people do not, and cannot take MDMA everyday, or every week for that matter, like u can do with other amphetamines and heroin etc.
Sure the addiction potential is not there but a whole other host of problems are. Some leading pharmacologists are "terrified" of this molecule.
There would have to be a limit imposed; i like the personal card idea, otherwise u would get fuckwits trying to take it every couple of days and days on end. So there would have to be limits imposed, as humans have little self control.
Plus MDMA use is confined generally to raves, clubs and homes. If legal would we start getting people rolling off their tits walking around shopping centres, in the middle of the day etc? I know what i look like on a good whack of X, and its not for the general public to see
smile.gif

And u wouldnt have it at the cigarette stand, must be behind the counter with the pharmacist, under very tight security.

Biscuit...
Whats wrong with taking mdma everyday if you feel like it? Just b/c you cant handle, or enjoy it, doesnt mean society should ration out doses. That would suck.

Umm , empire dude, maybe you should try (as an experiment) to take mdma for a few days in a row...you'll soon find out whats wrong with people taking it everyday.. not exactly what i'd call fun..

fly high , but watch your head

mpire: instead of useless flaming and saying crap like you cant handle it is just lame, have mdma twice a week or 3 times a week for a month, you want like it by the end cause it wont do a great deal and your body is so familiar with the feeling it is no longer special. both physically and psycologically mdma should be taken as infrequently as possible in an attempt to maintain its 'special' nature that it has
smile.gif
having it too often regardless of the physical damage just ruins everything.

No i cannot handle it; neither can any human, unfortunately thats the way our body works. We are not talking about dopamine; which the body regulates, changes, replaces etc all the time.
The serotonergic system is not one to be abused very often. Perhaps the best example is that serotonin regulates body temp. There probably isnt anything more in our bodies that is meant to be kept at a constant level;
this area of the brain imo, unlike the other areas affected by substances is one which cannot deal with significant alterations and changes in neurochemical levels.
Its all there; the evidence of neurotoxicity of once a fortnight MDMA users is sketchy; but for everyday test subjects; its undoubtable.
MDMA days on end??? get it over with and throw your brain in an oven.

G'day, guys. Interesting, if heated, discussion!! Seems to me, however, that arguing recommended dosages might belong in drug discussion!

If you are interested in moves within Australia to decriminalise ecstasy, Finn has uncovered some interesting information while working on the bluelight stall. I'll get her to post something here.

um yes... summoned by bananafish.
I stumbled upon this extremely topical report whilst doing research for the bluelight stall. It's all out there on the net if you know where to look.
Redfern Legal Centre prepared a report called Beyond Prohibition as part of their drug law reform project. It makes interesting reading.

For those of you unfamiliar with Redfern Legal Centre it is a community legal centre based in the suburb of Redfern in Sydney. They are very supportive of the work that we want to do with the Bluelight Stall. Their site is well worth a look.
