I didn't know where to post this so here is my little story.
In Romania sometime in September 2008 some drugs became legal and stayed legal until February 2010.I do not know how this was possible, Romania being an ex-communist country and with a still narrow minded view on this matter.
I did not have anything against this and actually the drugs sold in so called Coffee Shops were also my introduction to drugs. There were only 2 types of drugs sold:weeds and snorting powder.Still there were a lot of varieties,I myself having tried about 15 types of smoking blends and 2 types of snorting powder which in fact was a derivative of amphetamine.
However they were not sold as drugs and on every pack it said they are not for human consumption. The weeds were for "aromatherapy" and the sniff was "bath salt".The prices varied and were approximately 7 euros for 0,5 a gram of weed and 12 euros for 0,25 sniff.
Some may consider that this is an awesome thing and trust me it was at the time.Gradually more and more potent weeds appeared on sale and sometime in 2009 a smoking blend called "Bonzai" appeared.I am sincere when saying that it was at least 4 times stronger than good marijuana and at the same price. Also when online weed shops appeared they also sold magic mushrooms and Hawaiian Baby Woodrose.
The coffee shop industry was booming and a friend of mine who worked in one of these told me that in the 5 days from Christmas to New Year's Eve he sold up to 36,000 euros worth of stuff.Remember that this was only one coffee shop and in my city which is quite small(100.000 population)you could find 3 other coffee shops. In other cities there were as many as 30 and in the capital probably over 50.
Me and my friends usually smoked the weed because it was pretty cheap and from 0,5 of the strong kind 4 people got high 2 times. The sniff was expensive and from 0,25 usually 2 people got their high. The sniff was also very addictive. Some former heroin users becoming addicted to it and saying that it was harder to quit than heroin.Almost all the low lifes in my city became addicted to this sniff which was called "Special Gold" and started selling stuff from their homes or stealing to get their dose.
About 10 teenagers died from the sniff and one died from the Bonzai until January 2010.Also vendors at coffee shops sold sniff and weed to mere children.I saw with my own eyes as 14 year old kids walked in like they were owning the place and bought.
Finally the pigs in the parliament probably got their share of this deal and after almost a year and a half decided to close down coffee shops because of the increasing deaths and the raising number of addicts.
The day before closing time everything was 75% cheaper and almost all the merchandise was bought.I was glad that this was finally over as I am against drugs that cause addiction or that can kill you. Also the fact that children had readily prepared drugs for them was unbelievable. For me it was an interesting period and also a fun one as I had used them responsibly and almost never let them interfere with school.
The rumor is that they will open up again(may actually be open in the capital already) with new products for sale that weren't banned and if this happens than corruption in Romania is higher than the kids it kills.
An interesting account:some french kids came to Romania and found out about these Coffee Shops. They were used to Marijuana and probably thought that these smoking blends are much weaker. They asked for the strongest kind and were hospitalised.:D
I heard some smoking blends were legal in the United States. Are they still legal now?
