I recently purchased 50gs (99.5% purity) with the recommended dosage of 200mgs (scoop included).

I purchased it for relaxation, anti-anxiety effect, and sleep-- should I take it right before bed?

But I read several users saying that it helps with concentration, motivation, etc so it's best taken in the morning.

ALSO, I know that's it's in a lot of Japanese products and has an "unami" flavor.. is it good with just water? Has anyone tried it? What's your dosage and when do you dose?

How is the chemical supposed to taste, I have my doubts that I got the real thing.
Isnt umami the flavor of cooked meat or something?

I tried the taste for the first time really and it takes a few seconds before I can detect it at all, it is like artificial sauce or something for meat dishes. (like Wiener Schnitzel™)

The stuff I have can serve as anxiolythic for "normal people" as a social lubricant (as stupid as it sounds)
Not as strong as alcohol or benzos but it does something in the background and you end up non anxious.
No rebound is there for me but it seems to be a bit short lived, it is strongest maybe 1h after taking it.
And it reliable fucks up my sleep for whatever reason so i take it during the day.

L-Theanine tastes sweet to me. I take it sublingual (a scoop under the tongue) and I put in my green tea and it tastes good. It's a bit hydrophobic but it will dissolve with some stirring.

I keep it by my bedside & take it before bed & let it dissolve as I fall asleep. L-Theanine is good stuff.
 
tastes sweet to me, but also has a vile quality to it. its never made me throw up but i feel like it could if i kept it in my mouth long enough
 
I would like to know also if taking this before Bed is a good or bad idea?
 
Well, for someone who takes benzos, can he feels the sedative effects you say, or feel smth else, IDK, I've hear that it potentiates opiates,is it true?

I take up to 1g at a time with 1g valerian, 1g Lysine, and melatonin for some relaxation before bed.

I have a benzo tolerance, I can't say it has significant effects but definitely does something in the background for a simple relaxation lubricant as stated.
 
Thanks everyone! I don't really know if I really feel any strong effects. o.O.. but I think I feel the effects a little bit. I take it 30mins-a hr before I sleep. It's pretty tasteless. I throw it in my green tea and don't even notice it! I'm thinking of trying to up the dosage to make 400mgs instead of the standard 200mgs. :) I believe it does help me sleep (still take like 1mg of etizo) and when I wake up--I feel refreshed and super charged for the morning!

$14 for 250 standard serving sizes--I'll take it! Lol.
 
I found that its best in the morning, 30 minutes before you have coffee/caffeine. It increases the focus while also calming the nerves. I never found it to help with sleep personally. The best one is made from "suntheanine"- I think its a stereo-isomer or something that makes it work better
 
It's in tea, very much so in green tea, particularly japanese green teas like sencha or gyokuro

I've also purchased a bottle, suntheanine being the best as mentioned. I found it to be virtually useless for insomnia, and as a study aid, drinking a few cups of green tea works much better. l-theanine modulates the effects of caffeine, and the combination is wonderful for studying. taking the thenaine alone didn't do much for me, nor did i feel much relaxation or anything.

drink tea! it's a great drink.
 
I take l-theanine (250mg) with caffeine (250) in the morning and it does seems to have some synergy (less jittery, more comfortable stimulation) but I haven't found it to do anything by itself that couldn't just be a placebo.
I have also used it with picamilon at night and its an ok sleep aid but probably useless if you have legit insomnia. Better than nothing though! I would say this combination has about the same effect as 250-400mg phenibut (but if I take any more than 500mg of phenibut to sleep I find that my first 3 hours of waking involve cloudy head, slight loss of balance, and increased tiredness)

L-theanine is L-theanine no matter where you go. there are no other "isomers" of L-theanine, otherwise it wouldn't be designated as L. It's just brand loyalty hard at work.

It's an amino acid - don't expect massive druglike effects. But it is proven to be a fairly mild stress reducer and neuroprotectant.

Like other amino acids I would expect taking small doses throughout the day would be more effective than big bolus doses.

It's all green tea Japanese? Nothing beats ITO EN! :) I drink several cans of green tea daily.


& laugh, you know nobody could honestly be able to answer that. :P
 
The l-theanine i had wasn't very water soluble..

And it had no effect as any dose (i went up to about 2gs)
