I know of it's use as a sex enhancer, memory and neuroprotectant. I recently found out that it was an nmda antagonist, it's converted to agmatine in the brain i think. Agmatine is related to Arcain and a bunch of other similar NMDA antagonists reported to have dissociative like qualities in labrat tests.
I was wondering if it could be used as a dissociative but I wanted to know from people with knowledge of it such as.... Is it RELATIVELY safe to ingest 50 to 100+ grams? How does this shit taste(pure)? Is it a good potentiater of other dissociatives.

I read that it's believed to be one of the main chemicals resposible in near death experiences. protects brain, elevated moods, anticonvulsant/seizure may produce profound states of mind. Would this be feasable. I know it's weak but it does cross BBB

L-arginine is used in bodybuilding to increase "pumps" in the muscles. There's evidence that Citrulline Malate is more responsible for increasing L-arginine levels than taking doses of L-arginine itself. There are certain NO supplements on the market that include either L-arginine, Citrulline Malate, or both as active ingredients. I haven't tried them, so I can't give you an experience report. I have never heard of anyone taking L-arginine for the purposes that you are interested in, however.

If you wanna read more about it, see:

I might be showing my ignorance here, but who says arginine blocks NMDA receptors?

scientists...medical journals...pharm/chem companies

I thinks it may not be l-arg itself but the fact that it metabolizes into agmatine

Okay, yeah, because I can't find any evidence that Arginine inhibits NMDA receptors. Agmatine does seem to act as a channel blocker like Ket/PCP [1]. But I've never heard of anyone taking L-arginine supplements tripping out, but seeing as it has all kinds of other effects (nitric oxide, imidazoline, adrenergic) I would be very reluctant to try it.

It has a horrid taste. Not as bad as many psychedelics, but there is nothing pleasant about its taste. However, the taste of arginine is bearable, so ingesting a large amount should not be much of a problem.

Even with these side-effects, if Arginine can make people trip, it will become a commom drug of abuse as soon as someone will say that it makes you trip...

Would taking Arginine potentiate Opiates?
(NMDA antagonists are good potentiators, is this Agmatine a strong one? or a very weak one like Magnesium...?)

weak, it can be taken orally but the prefered rout for scientists is ICV or IP so those dosages can't be taken effectively but I think 5 grams is where anything note worthy starts happening, a dose of 25grams would be where it gets really interesting(I'm just going off rat studies and what not so I could be totally wrong) that would to get 25grams in yer system I think you would need about 75 to 100 grams of L-Arg. Normally I'd be put off by ingesting that much of a chem, but if it's safe nontoxic and totally natural to the body like it is and if it can be mixed into a smoothie or sumthn then why not
