I have been off Kratom about 6 months. I quit because it was getting expensive.
Ever since I have been off it, I’ve had monster diarrhea daily. Literally shit my pants several times, and now carry spare underwear wherever I go. At first I thought it was WDs, which makes sense, but after 6 months, I’m thinking I permanently whacked out my gut motility.

Does anyone else have this experience?

(Please feel free to move this post if it doesn’t belong here)

I was taking about….. 150-300 capsules per day. I didn’t do toss/wash b/c it made me sick. (I would have been a full time opiophile if I didn’t hate nausea so much). Possibly more than that, but I washed it all down with beer and other alcoholic beverages. I used the smoke shop brands. I’m too reclusive to get the good stuff.

I can describe my WD symptoms if it would help determine how much I was taking. I took enough that I was having to buy the biggest jar twice a week.

I think that's unusual, but I also think it's very possible it could be withdrawal symptoms that will eventually resolve. In my younger days, I always thought withdrawal lasted a week or two. The first time I withdrew, I quit 2 weeks before classes started and thought I was just depressed. After the 2 weeks, I could barely leave my apartment, but it eventually resolved. I got addicted worse, later, and was sick for a year, like nonfunctional, slightly out of my mind, to the point I was seriously wondering if I had developed a mental illness. After enough time, it resolved.

I also don't know of any mechanism that would cause any amount of opioid use to cause permanent gut dysfunction.

hmm… you make a lot of sense. The reason I am thinking about permanent damage to my gut motility is because I’ve heard that people recovering from eating disorders (bulemia, anorexia, etc…) experience long term digestive side effects. I used to have to *ahem* manually disinpact myself about once a week. I’m sure you know better than I do, but. I’ve never heard of WDs lasting 6 months. Any way, I am extremely grateful for your advice. In the early days of my WDs, I also shat bloody jelly in between diarrhea storms. I’ll keep you posted with updates on my extreme bowl movements. Now, I also consume 7-10 standard units of alcohol per day, but I consumed the same amount, if not more, before quitting Kratom. For now, I’ll assume you are correct. After all, I may have done a lot of drugs, but I am not an expert. Thank you.

Hey man, if there's anything a junkie loves to talk about, it's bowel movements. Back when I was eating opium pods, I would have to give myself an enema regularly once every 5 days, after which I would shit a gigantic, bleeding shit that was a perfect mould of my colon. I'd laugh about that with all my junkie friends back then. We all loved talking about shitting.

Keep in mind I'm not a doctor, nor am I even a responsible member of society. The safest thing to do would be to see a doc, let him run tests if he finds it necessary, though I know that's not easy to afford and wouldn't be a fun conversation to have, lol. But if you were taking 350 capsules or more a day, what is that, 175 grams per day?? That's a frankly insane amount. What it for a short time? I can't imagine you being functional enough to work through the withdrawal. That's nuts. Blood in the stool can be really bad though. If it's black and like tar, that would indicate internal bleeding. If it's red and fresh, more likely just something like irritated internal hemorrhoids or superficial damage to the colon which could be caused by manual removal of rock hard shits.

And hope you're careful with the alcohol, man. I flirted with alcoholism for years after the first time I quit opiates. I just always felt like I needed something, and it was too convenient. I can't imagine the pain of getting physically addicted to that stuff and trying to get off, though. The stories on youtube about DT's are terrifying.

Oh, I agree. I tapered over the course of 3 months. The withdrawals were long and protracted, but they were only really nasty when I discontinued altogether. I was still able to work, I just felt like a lobotomized turd. And regular day to day pains became excruciating for a few weeks.I used much less- then up to- that amount for about 18 months. Again, with a great deal of variation. It got me through the day as a chef.
Literally the only remaining issue is the never ending liquid poop. I haven’t had any blood in about 3months, but from the time I wake up until 1:00 or so, I take 4 turbo shits. Like Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber.
I’m very hesitant to bring it up with a doctor since I do not want to be charted as a drug user or “etoh’er” . I’d rather not be subjected to reduced quality of care, judgment, or increased premiums.

so far I have never experienced any of the serious alcohol withdrawal symptoms. After 3 days I find it hard to sleep and sweat slightly more than usual. Other than that I don’t have any I’ll effects. I make sure to never drink before 7:00 pm and never to increase the dosage two days in a row.

I hear you man, I have never admitted to a doctor to drug use. I probably wouldn't go either, I'd just hate to have given bad advice if something is going on. I really don't think kratom could have permanently ruined your GI health, at least I've never heard of that happening before, but that doesn't mean something isn't going on. If it doesn't slowly improve over time or gets worse, you still wouldn't have to admit to drug use or alcohol use, just tell the doc you have had the runs for months and don't know why. They'll run tests. If you work in a kitchen, my stepson worked as a chef and ended up with some sort of infection from handling raw meat all the time. E.coli I believe. He ended up in the hospital from it. But the only symptom I remember is him passing out when working outside with me one day. But withdrawal makes your body run down, likely has negative effects on your immune system, and could make it harder for your body to fight off an infection. You're exposed to a lot of bacteria that cause food poisoning, GI distress if you work in the food industry.

One thing you could do as a test it is take some loperamide (immodium). Loperamide works on opiate receptors in the gut but doesn't cross the blood brain barrier except in massive, dangerous doses. If it was some sort of protracted withdrawal effect, I believe a normal dose of 2 tablets of loperamide should cure it immediately. Of course it could also temporarily resolve the diarrhea if something else is going on, but it might be worth a try to take some and see if it makes your guts feel 100% normal, that'd be some evidence that it's opiate receptor related.

I've never heard of anybody consuming kratom in quarter kilogram intervals on the daily without just scooting up to extracts or 7-HO, damn. I get almost debilitatingly intoxicated off of 10-12 grams, with what I consider a high tolerance relative to my norm.

I personally have like 5-6' of intestine left and it's all ileus, as well as an ileostomy. Kratom is more helpful for it than loperamide, and loperamide is also far more cardiotoxic than something I'd advise for regular use, personally.

To be honest, blood in your stool is always a very good reason to go see a doctor. If nothing's actually wrong with your digestion, psyllium husk can help a great deal against bowel problems. Just make sure to drink a lot of water, otherwise you might end up constipated.

That doesn’t sound normal. I’ve had years of 50-100g per day habits, and after quitting, had really loose BMs for months, but not what you describe. You might have been masking a bowel problem with the kratom, and now that you’ve stopped, you are seeing the symptoms. Kratom not only has opiate constipating effects, but the massive amount of leaf powder also bulks up stools. Stopping that will cause your colon and microbiome to make major adjustments. It can take months to normalize. That said, I would see a gastroenterologist asap.

That is probably the most I've ever heard anyone taking in a day, not to mention daily. I feel like at that point, your body literally is not able to process that amount of powder, and yeah I could see that getting pricey as well.

Would def consider pulling back on the alcohol if possible, they say a single unit of alcohol per day can have significant effects on gut biome. Also probiotics could also prolly be useful.
