A friend of mine consumed about 25 grams of kratom powder (usually Bali) using the Toss and Wash method every day for almost 4 months straight. He decided to quit cold turkey and is now experiencing withdrawals. The cold-like chills have subsided after about 7 days, but he is still experiencing very annoying "dizzy spells" throughout the day. It has been 11 days since he stopped used kratom. He says the dizziness is very similar to something that one would experience while going through SSRI withdrawals.

I haven't seen a single thread on this subject. Has anyone heard of this? How long should it take for his dizziness symptoms to subside?

I have also experienced the dizziness from Kratom withdrawal. Surprisingly, I've found very little information regarding some of the finer points of Kratom withdrawal.

At first, the dizziness took me by surprise and it just added to my anxiety....It gave me flashbacks to SSRI withdrawal, and that's not a comfortable feeling. Hopefully, people in the future will find this thread (glad I did) just so they know that others have experienced the same thing.

For me, the dizziness can be accompanied by something that I can only describe as being similar to the "brain zaps" that you get during SSRI withdrawal, but not exactly the same.

Along with the dizziness, it's just hard to think straight or concentrate or even focus on a computer screen....My sympathetic nervous system is on overdrive, so I notice a lot of things in my peripheral vision. It can be kind of startling sensation because it seems like I'm having mild visual hallucinations - just very, very brief flashes of some object that's there that really isn't there. It's kinda hard to explain, but I think it's mostly from just being very on-edge and anxious and noticing every slight movement around me.

Of course, there are other withdrawal symptoms that I haven't touched on, but I definitely agree about the dizziness.....Maybe not everybody gets that symptom though.

Kratoms ok once in awhile, but it's not going to take the place of a normal opiate. I've noticed the next day there's a "hang over". The hang over after kratom feels worse then alcohol. You just feel like a zombie. I've yet to experience any kratom withdrawals though. That's probably the one good thing about it, compared to a real opiate it's very forgiving.

The kratom hangover might help people switching from a normal opiate trying to taper, but i'm not sure.

Your more likely to suffer from the side effects then the actuall withdrawal. Some of the side effects of kratom are so weird, such as loosing the ability to focus your eyes, getting droopy eye lids, and your skin color changing.

It's probably best to only take it rarely sense the side effects tend to become more pronounced after daily use.

Chances are 5htp might help the after effects go away sooner.

Kratom sneaks up on you, and it feels like a mix of ssri+opiate withdrawal, which is a combo that doesn't sound too appealing. It actually reminded me of tramadol withdrawals. extremely unpleasant.

I had no Idea!

I was an occasional Kratom user and was taking a about 10 grams/day. The reason I started was to ease the withdrawl symptoms from Norco. I had no Idea that this withdrawal would be much worse than the Norco withdrawal. I stopped about 4 days ago and im going through hell right now. Im on the ssri celexa and it feels like I havent taken my medication for days. How long does this nausea, pain, zaps and wierd withdrawal symptoms last, cause this is not fun! Thanks!

Interesting! I haven't done Kratom for about three days from a minor habit (maybe a month) and was feeling weird in the head, similar to the ssri WD. Minor occasional brain zap. I didn't think it was Kratom withdrawl cuz all I ever read was the comparison to opiate WD.

Glad I found this old thread. Just wanted to chime in.

Question...is everyone who are experiencing the brain zaps on a SSRI as they are WD'ing? I am.
