Hey all… so I know that Clonazepam isn’t a pain reliever, it’s a benzodiazepine, but that’s all I have my hands on. I’m going in for an endometrial uterine biopsy and I’m terrified of the pain. I have no money to buy opioids due to being unemployed… will this help any? I’m so scared. Please reassure me.

Clonazepam actually does have some pain relief properties but pain has to be some kind of nerve (neuropathic) pain. Clonazepam has, as do other benzos (but it is more pronounced with clonazepam, clobazam midazolam, diazepam, lorazepam) pretty potent anti seizure properties and it is used, among others, to treat seizure disorders and nerve pain.

Other pain that is treated with cloonazepam (but also diazepam, clobazam and other benzodiazepines...) is pain associated with spasms as benzodiazepines poses potent miorelaxant properties.

But what could be of most help to you are hypnotic effects of benzodiazepines, clonazepam included as they are used to wipe out formation of short term memory which then will help you not to memorise and recall traumatic experience of the procedure you will be going through.

So although they are not pain killers per say large enough amount will help with fear before procedure, relaxation during and forgeting possible traumatic experience.

So they can help BUT be certain that you are not interfering with the procedure, especially if you will be given some medication. Doctors involved have to know about possible interactions of medications and witholding information could put them and you into precarious situation.

Hope everything goes as smoothly as possible. Take care!

So, unfortunately, my Klonopin didn’t do much for my pain. I was in a ton of pain and am currently smoking some weed to deal with the after effects.

Honestly, I just want to post that getting an endometrial uterine biopsy was one of the most painful experiences of my life and I am still in pain some 18 hours later. If anyone else has to get it, do not believe that all you need is an ibuprofen and Tylenol beforehand. I wish I’d had an OxyContin or two because it was the most painful thing I’d experienced and I’m still in pain. I’m supposed to start my new part-time job today and I keep almost passing out from the pain. Fuck being female. I hate this.

I am so sorry. Hope that at least biopsy results are fine. And yeah it sucks...the burdens of having bloody ans (especially with endometriosis) bloody periods, hormonal changes that go with it, birth pains, taking precautions if you don't want to get pregnant...

On the other hand there are positives also. Feel good hormonal cocktail when you're pregnant and few weeks after birth while bonding with a child, the miracle of being able to grow and give birth to human being, not being forced to go to war or doing the most tedious jobs in society...

Life is a one trade of after the other and being a woman sucks whole lot less than 100 years ago. 🙂

I hope that pain will stop soon and wish you luck on your part-time job.

P.S. If you're not worried about addiction maybe you can buy some kratom based products for few days to help with pain?

Did you ask the docs about pain relief?

I had a uterine ablation, where they burn the lining of your uterus (my periods were lasting 2 weeks). It stops your period. They put you asleep and when you wake up it's like your insides are on fire, well it was just burnt so extremely painful. They told me to take advil. I had oxy thankfully but that barely touched the pain.
They let us women suffer. Like wtf is advil going to do for 3rd degree burns inside your body.
No period for 10 years though. I still technically get my time of the month, sore boobs and moody but no bleeding so it was worth it

I think it’s terrible that women are not offered pain relief or anaesthesia for uterine surgeries or procedures. I remember them trying to stitch me up after giving birth and I refused to let them without a local. I don’t get it. Hope you’re ok now. Benzodiazepines will help you sleep when you are in pain.

I asked about various pain-relief methods. Cervical blocks, any pain medications they could prescribe, etc. They said it's "mildly uncomfortable" and "they don't prescribe narcotics". So, I was SOL. I'm unfortunately without any money at the moment, I so can't even buy anything to help. All I have is OTC methods like Ibuprofen and Tylenol. I had some weed last night to help take the edge off and I'm luckily prescribed Klonopin for panic attacks, but it didn't help with pain. I am so mad at how everything happened and how badly I was disregarded.

Oh my god, that's terrible! I am so sorry! I can't believe they wanted you to take just Advil. Fuck that. I wish I'd had oxy with this and it was just a damn biopsy.

I've been having a period for the last three months non-stop, no day has been without blood unfortunately. I had a 10 day long period in January and a six-week long period in Feb-March. It's been hell. They don't know the exact cause. I can't believe it. I want to be a mom someday, so I had gotten off birth control, and it's just been a fucking roller coaster since. I just want to be normal again. And unfortunately, I genuinely have no money in my account or else I would go buy some Kratom products. Or even better go to my old plug and get some pain killers, she gets prescribed Oxy. I know she would sell me a couple. :( But I don't have any money at all right now except about $20 and that has to get me to and from my new job.

I begged, and she said that it would be over momentarily and it wasn't that bad. I screamed and nearly leapt off the table. To give some context, I have six herniated discs, a torn disc, scoliosis, arthritis, disc desiccations, spinal stenosis, and other issues. I've had a torn ACL and a broken ankle in the last 8 months, and my gallbladder was removed. This was horrendous. One of the worst pains I've had. And the continuous symptoms have been awful. I've been nauseous and light-headed all day, in pain, and I just don't feel right.

And with all those conditions you didnt get even codeine? They could have given you some tramadol at least...not the strongest painkiller but some effects and a bit of a placebo would help. I'm truly sorry for the pain you are in.

It was a female doctor as well, figured a woman would know better.
I have to go for a pap test and biopsy of my cervix and I've been putting it off. They literally cut a piece of your insides out and try to say it's not painful 🙄

Paps have always been painful for me, so I was nervous about this biopsy... And then they said it would only be painful for a minute. It's been 25 hours and I'm still holding my stomach and in pain. 😞

My at-the-time wife was horrifically sick when pregnant. Her female OB/Gyn wouldn't grant her a short time off work because, after all, the doc said she worked all thru her own pregnancy so the morning sickness wasn't that bad.
Granted she was living on Ensure and hugging the toilet and from 135lb to 113lb.
that doc got the boot before the baby came
Got another more compassionate doctor who was male. Males have no idea how it may feel to have wicked morning sickness, he gave her some disability time

It’s to do with compassion and empathy. Women endure all sorts of pain throughout their lives which the medical profession view as “normal”: menstrual/ovulation cramps, pregnancy, birth, gynaecological procedures, breast issues, vaginal issues, menopause… Most of which are presumed to be just something that women should put up with. It doesn’t mean that we can though, and it needs to be very different. If we find an empathic Dr who understands that pain ISN’T normal then we get help. But we also need to be assertive (often interpreted as aggressive, problematic etc) and self advocating. We need to be knowledgable of our anatomy and able to assess what is or isn’t too painful. I’ve had terrible experiences with both female and male doctors, and the occasional exposure to compassionate ones. I learned after my first car crash birth (when both the baby and I almost died) that I needed to be more in control with my next one. It shouldn’t be this way but it is. Doctors need to be trained better and women need to learn to speak up.

That’s the whole point. All women are different and doctors fail to understand that while a routine PAP may be painless for one, it also could be traumatic and painful for another. The whole concept of having a medical procedure without sedation or appropriate pain relief is beyond inhumane.
