So you think that 1mg klonopin is closer to 10mg of valium instead of the 20mg valium which most conversion charts say? I switched from 1mg of xanax to 10mg of valium and found that to be an equivalent dose, and since 1mg klonopin = ~ 1mg of xanax, I agree with you (that .5 mg equals 10 mg of valium has to be total bs).
I am speaking in terms of therapeutic value, so my opinions are based on that rather than recreational value. Some benzo conversion charts vary, and have .5 xanax = 5mg valium, so it depends on the source of information. When I was tapering off of xanax by switching to valium, my doctor did not agree with the
conversion chart that I showed him which said that .5 xanax = 10mg valium. That is why he switched me from 1mg xanax to 10mg of valium, and I am glad that I listened to him because otherwise my taper would have taken 2x as long if he went by the chart I brought to my appointment which would have put me on 20mg of valium instead of 10mg.
I found diazepam to be an overall better benzo than xanax or klonopin, and its long half-life allowed me to go more than a day between doses at times, whereas on xanax I had only made it a little over a day without dosing once in the several years that I had been prescribed it.
In the interest of harm reduction I recommend that you use benzodiazepines sparingly instead of daily. I was unaware of the withdrawals that came from physical dependence to benzos when I was first prescribed them, and I really with that I had known back then what I know now. They helped with my anxiety and panic attacks at first, but after a while my body just needed them to function normally, and I needed to take several pills at once to treat my panic attacks when they occurred.
