This just proves how commercial Ibiza can truly be. Yes, there are good parties. But it's also a place that caters to the rich whom don't know or understand anything about Electronic music. EDM is one thing. I thought it was just the evolution of the rave scene. I've been going out in NYC (Warehouse raves, Vinyl, Limelight, Tunnel, Twilo, Carbon, etc...) since 1996. Even though I'm not into the EDM scene, or the music that they play, which I can't understand why it's called "Mainroom House". I can def. see it as the evolution of electronic music and the scene. I'm strictly into true Techno, Tech-House, Deep House and DnB when I go out.
Harwell, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, etc... all fall under this umbrella of detuned synths and a hard distorded kick music, which for some reason falls under "house". It's just been the evolution and a phase I'm sure. Like how Dubstep and Minimal came and went.
So far it's been something I've just learned to ignore and continue my love affair with true Techno, Tech-House, Hard Minimal, House, Deep House, Drum n Bass and Jungle.
But when I see people like Paris Hilton and now Kim Kardashian being labeled as DJs. and actually try and be headliners, and spin. I can't help but feel like WTF is happening here? Why are some people allowing the raping of our scene like this? Of course there are people who would pay anything to be in the same room as these wh*res. I think they should just continue doing what they always do, which is do club appearances. That way people can just take pictures at what they do best. That I would understand. Many celebrities do this. Then when you're doing an appearance, you can even have the DJ play your favorite EDM tracks.
But when they are paid to spin a pre-recorded set, or have someone mixing in the dark, when the spotlight shines on them is just a piss on all of the work people have been working hard since the 80s to build. DJs and promoters alike. And to label these 2 wh*res as DJs is almost like musical blasphemy. 8o
I think it's also kind of funny how Paris Hilton spins on the same night, and same club as Richie Hawtin does in Ibiza. Hawtin is another one who has bored me to death and sold out. Carl Cox hasn't taken these leaps in selling out, yet, he continues being adored world over. Because he just focuses on what the people like and come out for, THE MUSIC! So does many other good DJs, who actually know what they are doing. Like Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Nina Kraviz, Tale of Us, etc... So old and new alike, are coming out with good music, and understand the craft, and try to perfect it. if they are new to the scene or have been around for ages.
All I know is, if I was a DJ, and these 2 talentless wh*res suddenly became associated with what I do. I'd think that would be my cue.
I always see Vietnam vets. talk about America and say, "This is what I fought in 'Nam for?". I'm looking at what's going on in Ibiza and Vegas (And I hope it stays there), and I think, 'Is this why I partied, and stayed in dirty warehouses till 10 in the morning for?' When I was a teen or in my early 20s?. It's so disgraceful.
I'm a bedroom music producer. I'm not doing it trying to get fame out of it. I just looooove synths, and I also like the music. So I do it as a hobby. So I just think, wow! I can't imagine what real DJs must be feeling. They must feel so cheated and betrayed. Their love for the music completely doesn't matter if you have made a porn that became famous, you're stinking rich and could care less about the $ and you're famous for doing absolutely NOTHING!. Oh wait, You're famous for getting f***ed on tape. :p
:X :X :X

Club culture is a bizarre mix of people. I'm sure the models who didn't make it thought I was a little weirdo at those clubs. Ibiza, although I've never been, that probably gets multiplied. It reminds me of the club scene in American Psycho where they are dressed in suits, waving cash around, and doing bad coke in the bathroom. Or the guy meditating in center room. To the Italos living a stereotype. To the club girls. To the guys who work out, etc. etc. etc. To the gangsters. Its all types. One thing the cheap, plastic world of clubs loves to do is parade old hat celebs around like Kim Kardashian. Its the novelty of it.

I'm sure you understand as being a local in the culture from '96 on in NYC, it resembles closer to what Stefon represents than anything else. The party monster will eventually get bored of Kim K and pick someone else.

I also think it's a little weird to compare yourself to a Vietnam veteran, considering you chose to go to raves/clubs and become a part of that scene. You also have the choice to ignore things you don't like in the scene (or otherwise) instead of ranting about how much they suck. Do I think it's dumb that Kim Kardashian is pretending to be a DJ? Of course. But it's going to happen anyway, better to focus that energy towards something positive and not give attention to something that doesn't deserve it.

Practically every genre has seen commercialization and bastardization in one form or another, but you kind of have to expect that nowadays when there's money to be made. Electronic music has especially become watered down and wrapped in a nice little package. Frankly, I don't find Kim Kardashian DJing that much worse than people like Tiesto or Armin van Buuren selling out enormous stadiums to play garbage (in my opinion).

The thing is its so easy to DJ now, what with software that beatmatches and the style thats currently popular being quite "song based" they just mix the end of one song into the beginning of another. I know thats all DJing really is but the good actual DJs know how to throw a curveball and play bits and pieces of tracks to build a mood. Just mixing one song into another with sync is so easy, I think these "celeb DJs" really have managed to find a way of getting more money because they are supposedly actually doing something, not just making an appearance, and they have tapped into the club scene as a result. As the whole EDM thing is so big especially in the states these days I guess its roots can be traced to ibiza and the old school rave scene so its the logical step for them to start playing the places established already.

Going to ibiza is not something seen as something for the underground party animal any more, its just as desirable and fashionable as going to coachella. I don't blame the club owners for booking people like Kim K or Paris Hilton because at the end of the day they know they can fill their clubs with people who are willing to spend a load of money for bragging rites about being in a club with paris hilton and spending 500 euros on a bottle of vodka. this sort of person really isn't much of a music fan, they mainly go so they can boast on their instagrams about being there. I guess they think they are buying their way into the celebrity lifestyle and get a taste of what every shit raper talks about being "in da club". The type of person going to these nights thinks they are seeing the craziest night of their lives, like they hear about in every other song on the radio but really they are getting a pre packaged watered down version of a real club and electronic music experience, but dorothy in accounts is going to be way more impressed by hash tag partyingwithkimK than some weird dutch dj she's never heard of.

I honestly don't think any of the people going really care about the music at all, if they couldn't brag about going on their social media I doubt they'd go at all.

But hey you never know it might make them more interested in it and be the gateway into real music and parties so thats a good thing I guess. Once it goes out of fashion they'll jump onto the next thing and maybe a few of them will stick around and find out what its really about.

Playing in a band has always been cool but it takes skill, practice and a lot of money to play with a decent band. Turning up to a club with a laptop plugging it in and playing other peoples music gets them the same kudos from the crowd, the same amount of money and almost no skill at all. It's a no brainer for them to cash in on it.
