Anyone know why Bluelight logs me out so quickly? Sometimes (quite often actually) I'll begin reading a post or typing a reply and then when I go to post it, Bluelight has logged me out for some reason. I didn't notice this before the last Bluelight software upgrade, however I wasn't as active a member back then either (did a lot of lurking.)

Is there anything in my settings that I can adjust to fix this problem, or am I just stuck with this inconvenience? I don't have this problem on any other boards, just here. To be clear, I'm not talking about closing my browser and staying logged on. This happens after only several (really, just a few) minutes of inactivity (other than scrolling the mouse wheel to read more) and has caused me to lose multiple paragraphs/pages of typed reply. I've been combating this by highlighting and saving my typing to the clipboard before I attempt to post so that if I have been logged out, I can just re-log in and paste my response in a new reply window.

I know that the above isn't the most articulate thing I've ever typed (I'm pretty tired, long day), but I hope it's at least intelligible enough for someone to understand my problem. Thanks in advance.

It just happened again. By the time I finished typing the above, I had been logged out. This time the server cooperated fully and allowed me to log in, redirected me, and posted my new thread. This isn't always the case however, especially during high traffic times.

I don't have an answer for you, but I will point out that BL has a restore feature, which allows you to restore the content of your posts in a particular thread. All you have to do is log back in, click on the thread, and then click on the "restore content" button on the bottom left of the post.
 
Did you check the "Keep me logged in" box when you logged in?
 
^that is what i was thinking. otherwise you will get logged out rather quickly.
 
The log-out timer seems to be much shorter than it used to be.

Your options are:

  1. Write quicker.
  2. Write shorter posts.
  3. Enable the "Remember Me?" tickbox when logging in.
  4. Press CTRL+A and CTRL+C before submitting every post

Option 3 is not recommended unless you are using a private computer, that only you use, and is secured by other means.
Option 4 tends to be my preference. Long-term BL users got into that habit when the old software kept crapping out sporadically.

The auto-save and restore function will not save (or restore) text that is typed outside of your active log-in period.

If you do not use the 'remember me' option when you log in, you will inevitably time out. If this happens while you are typing an lengthy reply, the autosave feature will only save the text that was written while you were logged in. Anything written after that point will not be saved. If you then attempt to post when your account has timed out, you may lose the additional text and have no method of resurrecting it.

I have noticed this as well. I used to have to log into the old BL like once every two weeks. Now since the upgrade I time out before I'm done typing often times. I just make sure to copy my entire post before I hit submit so in case it logs me out I can just paste it and post once I log back in. It's pretty annoying, but I haven't found a way around it.
 
Yeah Reckless, that's the same method I've been using.

Note: Today I made sure that I checked the "stay logged in" box & made sure that I didn't close my browser entirely all day, and even when I have closed the Bluelight tab (Google Chrome) every time I opened a new Bluelight tab I was still logged in. Problem solved. Feel kinda dumb now. Note to self: pay more attention to my actions before starting a thread asking for help to a simple to solve problem. lol

And for the record, I logged off and then logged back on, and I was still able to restore the content using the method I mentioned previously here.
