In the future
lately(past month or so) i have been using kava suppliments for both tension/anxiety and recreational uses.

i am using store bought pills, and recently out of the blue i take some before bed and i wake up with a mild rash(puffy face, blotchy redness on skin). i'd been taking kava regularly without problems and nothing bad had happened. i looked up kava and apparently if you use too much for too long a mild rash will develop.

now i was taking like 15 pills(sometimes more) a day with 70% kavatones. i stopped use and the rash quickly went away.

now, i'm asking if i take small doses(max 3 pills every 24 hrs, which is what is the directions say on the bottle) will this rash come back or is it when overly high doses are taken does the rash develops?

*note i'm not allergic to it, and i made sure the pills don't have the toxic parts of the plant in them. apparently even in the pacific islands where fresh properly prepared kava is served that heavy kava drinkers/abusers develop this rash as well.

After just one dose, who knows, but extended use will definitely cause a relapse. It's an allergic reaction or developed hypersensitivity of some sort. Try fresh root, and if that doesn't work, avoid it entirely.

i know its not an allergic reaction as kava does this when used heavily over a long period of time.

i don't want to bother to order the "good" stuff over the internet(theres better things than kava that can be bought over the net), and i don't think it matters if the root is fresh or not it more has to do with the kavatones(so fresh root being more potent would more likely give me a rash).

While it may not technically be an allergic reaction, as such, it is definitely a reaction of your body to them substance.

Once you begin reacting to a substance, you more than likely will continue to react to the same substance, regardless of the reason. If you're going to continue to take it, try very small amounts, and if any symptoms persist, discontinue use immediately.

Personally, I have seen anaphylaxis result from similar situations. If you like breathing, you should probably play it very, very safe.

Does kava even do anything (besides a rash) at low doses? I was under the impression you had to do a shitload of it.

Trust me it does.

I know he is taking a shitload...

It gets you wasted in the doses the Fiji people use...

by itself kava won't get me "wasted", i'd take up to like 25 pills and felt only mild sedation.

but when mixed with benzos it synergizes quite well, more than i'd think considering that it's effects are mild by itself.

Storebought and fresh kava make a big difference.

If you look on the back for the total mg of kavalactones in each pill, and enough pills to where you get 250 mg kavalactones, this is the average amount in a cup of traditional kava preparations.

Now you have to multiply that times the number of cups a typical kava drinker consumes, which is 2-4.

This means that if you have one bottle of kava extract pills, you do not have enough......

Also, you can sit the kava in your mouth and slosh on it for better absorption, and a wonderful numbing sensation.

the bottle has 240 pills(i hope thats enough), and i know how much kavalactones needed for "full effects". unfortunately i have i huge tolerance to GABAergics(thanks to abusing quaaludes and being perscribed seconal in high school, as well as being an alcoholic in the past and now being addicted to benzos) which kava acts on so kava doesn't do much for my fried GABA receptors.

the only time i ever got a true buzz was when i downed an entire bottle of kava extract that was in a solution of over 90% pure ethanol. it felt sort of like a benzo but with less drowsiness, however i think the high alcohol content had a lot to do with it.

That is enough.

Complement it with your benzos, alcohol, etc... I just mainly use it as a booster...

shit, i'm still worried about developing a rash again.

i thinking maybe the risk of getting an uncomfortable rash is not worth kava's effects.

perhaps i'll try some high dose valerian with benzos instead.

Valerian has 5-ht3 antagonistic properties, it will only make you tired, not in the good way.

I'm telling you, dose less frequently, and your problems will be solved.

true, valerian does make me tired and a bit groggy compared to kava. but if i can't sleep benzos mixed with valerian usually works decently.

well, i suppose i'll take a low dose of kava to see if any bad things happen. if not, then i'll go from there.

Wait till your rash goes away first....
