ok so Ive seen threads like this before and i have a question which might make this easier for me (hopefully). My background of Suboxone: started off with 1 8mg per day for about 2 and half months. From there i was weened down to 3 2mg pills per day (6mg per day) which lasted a week. From there i was down to 2 2mg pills per day (4 mg per day) which also lasted a week. From there it was the same thing except 2 mg per day for a week and finally i was down to 1 mg per day for a week. Im now on day 1 of nothing and i dont feel so great eitherr. My doctor yesterday said i weened off properly and ill be ok but im not that great. I figured when i was down to 1 mg itd be easy to stop but i feel achy and get sweats and just an overall not nice feeling. Luckily, i have an extra 8mg pill left over and thinking of taking matters into my own hand and making it into .5 mgs and then stopping. What do you guys think of this? would that be smarter weening off of .5 instead of 1mg?

Yeah to your last sentence. And if you can break those .5 in half, do so. Ideally, you should jump from .1mg.

yeah, if you have 8 mg left, i would do a week at .5, a week at .25, and then something like .25 every other day before stopping entirely. it should make it a lot easier. many people think 1 mg is too high to jump w/out experiencing really negative effects. unfortunately, many doctors don't understand this for whatever reason.

Yes, the less you're taking before quitting, the less your body will have Wd's.
And yes, i agree Drs. are not always good in details, especially about Bupes, since they are relatively new.
Good luck

you said that this was your third thread on sub?

just utilize the mega thread.......post your questions in there.......

a mod will come here to tell you this anyways......

where did he say it was his third thread??

anyway, i still think he should of used the megathread like you said. It will probably get moved in time by a moderator.

I stopped at 1mg. You can read up on my entire experience in the megathread if you like. Also, you'll only be experiencing very weak withdrawal on day 1. Sub has a half-life up to 36 hours which means it's still in your system. Withdrawals peaked for me around 4-5 days after my last 1mg dose.

Good luck - it's only 1-2 weeks of your life and is definitely worth doing!

Definetly not. You are going to kick no matter what off suboxone. Shouldn't have chosen the medical route in the first place but now that you did, JUST TAKE THE KICK AND IT'LL BE OVER IN A COUPLE DAYS! and congrats for quitting! :D

It is amazing how uneducated most sub doctors are on this subject.

1mg is a MASSIVE dose to jump off from. Because people are so often put on doses much higher then they need, they think that 1mg is a tiny dose...it's not.

Most people would agree that .25mg (a quarter of what you were taking) is too high of a dose to jump off from.

My advice is to get some more subs if you can and do a slower taper down to 1/8th of 1mg. Good luck to you.

It really pisses me off that doctors that should know better, don't-and consequently their patients suffer unnecessarily.

^ I agree the lower you go the easier it will be. If you can get down to 1/8mg and stay there for a couple of weeks before dropping... you will likely feel much less WD's. Take your time, it's not a race.

Thanks a lot guys for all the help and support its why I love this place! As far as the quitting, thanks haha. Trust me after the hell I've been through with all this ill make sure to not let this happen. Most of you guys are saying to lower my dose since I too felt 1mg (even though it looks small) is still painful to kick off of. The lower I get down to the better. Happy thanksgiving!

My sub doc barely knew anything about bupe, or how it even worked. When I told him that I want to start lowering my dose so I can get off of it eventually and not have any withdrawals, he looked at me like I was crazy. He said "suboxone does not have any withdrawals" 8)

WHAT! theres no way your doctor can possibly say that. i mean.. my doc took me off, as i said before, at 1mg and he said "ok Jon you did everything right and i tapered you off properly so tomorrow when you don't take any suboxone youll be fine!" well that wasn't the case at all. You aren't definitely aren't crazy for wanting to lower your dosage down, its better to and you should go at your own comfortable pace.
