Jobs in Chicago?

For all people living in Chicago how hard is it to find a basic job in the city now? Currently I'm staying in the suburbs and it's been difficult to find employment to say the least. I've got two felony convictions for relatively minor offenses class 4's. I've held decent job's prior to my cases and haven't actually needed to work in a while so I do have some explainable employment gaps. I plan on moving near downtown or a little north of downtown.

I stay in Naperville. It's extremely hard to get a job in this area if you have a "record". I had a construction job in the city paying almost 40.00 an hour and now I struggle to find a 8.00hr job because of two minor felonies.

Hey, I live out in the suburbs right now...What I found to work , is one...lie about employment gaps if you can cover it up. Hell, I never graduated High School and no job I worked at ever even tried to verify if I was actually a HS graduate or not.

Also, look for small family-owned type businesses. These companies normally don't shell out the big money larger corporations will for background checks so you can normally get away with quite a bit more.

If you lie, what's the worst that happens? They find out and don't give you the job...they wouldn't have given you the job in the first place if you would have been honest, so might as well give bullshiting them a shot.

^^
with the internet it doesn't cost much at all to run checks. But your right, he probably should look to smaller businesses where he can perhaps talk to the owner and just be honest and depending on how he presents it could happen.

By basic I assume that you mean unskilled. And the the unemployment rate is about double for that of unskilled labor so I would think it would be tough getting an entry level position with the strikes on your record.

It sucks because I'm guessing those were for possession or otherwise drug related? to fuck up someones life over just using makes absolutely no sense. make it a small fine, or meetings and treatment or both and then allow it to be removed like a ticket.

Yeah I completely agree. I've applied at quite a few places around here and never got a call back. I think i'm going to take a shot in the dark and just move near the city and try to find employment there. I make a decent income right now by working from home by buying and selling video game accounts. The problem is the income is never consistent in that line of work.

Doesn't the mob run large-scale construction? Seems odd that a record would prevent you from getting a job in that industry, especially in a city like Chicago.

The mob is more affiliated with the unions then the construction companies themselves.

let me know what construction company that is ill be turnin 18 soon n have a clean record

most construction jobs you have to know somebody to get in..they just dont take random applicants

besides your 17 why would you want to do construction? go to school and get yourself a degree so you can then get any job you want...

if you were making 40 dollars an hour you had a union constructuon job because that is our current rate in chicago. They only do backgound checks when you are entering the apprenticeship, why did they do a background check on you if you were already working? Thats crazy shit...what trade are u in

Its not like that anymore ever since the labor department got involved with the unions. They have to take applicants, it used to be like that in the old days , but its all changed the past ten years. but at 17 i agree school is the best option. The money is good in chicago's union construction but it takes its toll on you and by the end of the week you need that line of dope

join the military boy and serve your COUNTRY

he might get lucky and get sent to afghanastan where he can get the flamest dope at 30 dollars for a few grams of uncut worlwide terrror dope. so join the military and serve your country boy!!!!!

I was in local 4 laborers union, I got hired prior to my felony convictions. I lost my job due to the amount of work missed due to a broken hip. I broke my hip in a car accident and needed an excessive amount of time over to recover and shit. I don't have a problem with joining the military but with my felony convictions I believe I would be disqualified.
