Jewelry Making , Knotting, and Stone Wrapping Thread

How about a thread about making jewelry?

So I'm starting to get into making hemp jewelery. I could do the square knot and the spiral knot. I want to learn how to wrap a stone for a necklace like this one but it's kind of hard! It doesn't come out like this:

The stone keeps falling out as well. Anyone have any tips on how to properly wrap it? Maybe there is a youtube video out there with instructions?

That is gorgeous! I have a decent collection of semi-precious stones that i'd love to use in jewelery, and would love to learn tips for wrapping in wire.

I'm going to love this thread :D My husband gave me a jewelery making tool kit for xmas a couple of years ago, and i've been making pieces. It's so much fun, and something that is a mobile craft.

I'll post pics of some earrings i made when i have a moment to to a pic.
 
I make beaded jewellery and sometimes use the shells I find and small stones round the shore, I find it a nice way to spend time and fun.
I got a couple of books a while back from amazon and another not to long ago on ebay

I found this sort of thing handy for practicing and trying before the finished one was ready.
 
Thank you for the links, tiggerific <3 I actually brought some lovely shells home from my honeymoon, the ones that already have little holes bored into them; i'm hoping to make something out of them :)

for the shells I was using clear elastic thread or fine silver and it was sitting really nice with it.
I got some bigger shells and used them in a belt with a dangly bit lol. I also decorated some bags I made with shells and the smaller stones I got. great fun with it.
As for keeping the stone in place, I would do a double tie at the bottom and the top to hold it together, maybe change the knotting you are using round the sides so it does not slip.
 
^Thanks for the suggestion but I think the stone would slide off to the sides don't you think? I would like to know how to do the knot like the one I posted above.

that is impressive, especially like the bracelet you are wearing while taking the pic. never even thought of that before, mind you we dont exactly have a good variety of sweets in our shops here for me to do something like that, but I love it. :D
 
I really want to get into this- I brought it up in the SO art thread b/c UNH posted photos of her jewelery she made...... We're tumbling stones and they're turning out nicely- so hopefully one of these days I will get around to purchasing the goods to do some wire wrapping :)

It's just a system of weaving, almost like knitting from what I understand.
Figuring it out is easy but making them perfect is fucking hard :|

Ok so I'm trying to remember the name of this stone, my friend told me about. I can't remember it's name though. The only thing I know is that it starts with an A. It's not amethyst.
