As everyone should be aware, the server is under a huge load and isn't holding up too well, and while I'm sure most of you are doing what you can to not make it any worse, there are still too many who are forgetting a few things, so I'm going to go over a few points which I want everyone to read and understand...
  • When you hit the submit button to post a message, consider it posted regardless of what comes up next...
    So if it comes up with some weird error message, your message has been posted. Even if you check the thread and you don't see your message, it is there... You might have to wait 6-24hrs to see it, but it is there...
  • Check the thread after you post and delete any multiple posts... Even if you hit submit once, just check the thread to make sure only one post has appeared... If there are more than one, delete the rest...
  • Use the back button, don't refresh! Or even better, open the forum thread listing in a new window and leave it alone until you've read all the threads you want to
  • Don't repeatedly refresh every five minutes! If you're a bluelight addict like me, find something else to calm your nerves while you wait for people to post, don't just keep refreshing the thread listings...
I've prolly forgotten a few things so feel free to add to the list if you have any suggestions...

Tars - it shouldn't be too hard to add some sort of duplicate detection in the message board. If the people running it want then I can have a look at it for them in my spare time (if I get any

Thats cool - but how soon is BL2 coming out? It might be worth hacking it into BL1 if its going to be a while off.....

...The problems with the server which are manifesting in a variety of problems including threads which don't update...
I said "Oi!" because I've spent most of the day deleting multiple posts 'cos people keep forgetting that they only need to hit the submit button once...
 
If only there was a post flood secuirity feature like EzBoard - it doesn't allow you to post more than one post in a minute, could have stopped those multiple posts.
Anyway, keep trying Tarsy, you might eventually get through to some people

Hey - I've noticed sometimes when I'm trying to post I get timed out, and then when I go back in to look at the thread (sometimes hours later) the number of responses has increased but I can't see my post. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions as to why?
oh and.. if I've entered multiple posts lately it's probably because of the above reason.. or maybe an itchy trigger finger

Trouble: I'm assuming that you've read the first bullet point in my first post in this thread, so I won't go over that again...
Ok, here we go everyone...
The half technical explanation is that when you post a reply, hitting the submit button sends the contents to the bluelight server almost immediately, but it then has to process the actually thread the message is posted in, update that thread, then return a confirmation to your browser... Think of it as two threads, the one you see, and the real one in the database...
We mods can see the database one in the UBB control panel, but you guys can't...
So yes, when you post a reply, check the number of responses, or the position of the thread... If the thread wasn't at the top of the list, but is now, your post is there... and if the post total goes up, your thread is there, even if you check the thread and you can't see your post, it is there...
Everyone got that now?
 
Hmm I posted a reply about 3 days ago and it hasn't appeared yet!!!! What's going on? :P
