If you IV any type of amphetamines, right as the rush comes up you get that sensation in your lungs. A mix of tingling, burning, stinging but not painful or even unpleasant really. With higher doses, most people cough reflexively.

What causes that? Does it 'mean' anything, physiologically?

I know the feeling. I also get it with I.V. mephedrone, kind of like a taste but more of a sensation, if that makes sense. as to the cause of the effect I don't know. maybe blood vessels bursting in the lungs?

I always just assumed it was the taste of the drug. When I used to shoot cocaine the first sensation I would experience would be the taste/smell of cocaine in my mouth and nose. I experienced a similar sensation when I injected MDPV.

I also found that IV Mephedrone and IV 4-FA also produced that chemical taste/feeling, almost like there is something acidic/corrosive crawling up the lining of your esophagus.

Actually the cough is from the rapid constriction of blood vessels of the alveoli in the lungs. These air sacks have a very thin layer of cells next to capillaries to allow the exchange of gases necessary to breath. When the blood vessels constrict, the alveoli also shrink slightly and the air that is in them is expelled quickly, causing the "meth cough".

that sounds about right. I figured it had something to do with the vessels in the lungs, so does the constricting cause a sudden lack of oxygen increasing the head rush?

Yea it causes a dramatic increase in blood pressure bc you have the same amount of blood flowing but your veins have constricted. Also the head rush could be attributed to the rush from the meth itself. I do not IV but when smoked I have gotten the "rush" and I would say it feels like a lot more than just a bp change.
