It's been one year and half/ two years since I'm taking zyprexa. I suffer of social phobia, anxiety and depression. My doctor put me on zoloft, zyprexa ( 5 mg) and lorazepam. I quit zoloft a little more than a month ago.
Why is olanzapine considered so bad as a medication? I want to quit because I feel I don't need it anymore and also because I read horror stories of people losing their mental health, people getting suicidal,etc..
I also read of people "not feeling right" after months since quitting it.
I want to quit taking it, but I'm also quite scared now. Do you have some experience about quitting olanzapine?

IME Zyprexa (olanzapine) is a great drug, except for the weight gain. And it's obviously going to suck if it gives you tardive dyskinesia, but all the APs can do that. Also, the generic version that I tried (there are many) was not as good as the branded drug, which is too expensive.

Honestly I never felt anything taking olanzapine. No mood shift, no anxiety reduction, nothing. Maybe because I take it when I go to sleep, I don't know.
I never felt any side effect and I didn't gain weight. But what I'm reading here scares me and I want to quit. I also don't need it anymore.

If it's working, stay on it. Ignore all the horror stories. Only you and your doctor can tell what medication is right for you.

If it makes you feel better, keep a mood diary to monitor your emotions while you're on it. If anything goes wack, you'll be prepared for it and see it coming. Then you can talk to your doctor about it.
