Is there any evidence of traditional entheogenic use of Argyreia?

No there doesn't seem to be an substantial evidence of any traditional use of Argyreia for entheogenic purposes, though it does have a long history of use as a medicinal.

In the wiki it says it was used by Hawaiians and Puerto Recans as a cheap buzz.
Then made its way to Hoffman who discovered it contents.
It doesnt say when he analyzed the sample though.

Its quite possible that people only started using it for psychoactive effects after it was discovered they contains LSA's

I guess that is possible, but for some reason I feel it's not likely.

I have heard rumors of them being used traditionally as intoxicant by the poor in the Pacific Islands...

But there are so many questions... are the seeds native to the Pacific Islands or did they come from India?

There are also rumors of the shamanic use of Argyreia in Nepal...

I'm sure I've got a paper on the use of entheogens by shamans on the Indian subcontinent that mentions Argyreia spp.

I'm still in the process of transferring my scientific library on to digital media so everything is a bit chaotic at the mo but I'll keep my eye out and copy and paste the relevant material in to a pm for you Teo. I will definitely copy it to you I'm afraid I just can't guarantee when right now, sorry :(

Peace, Ethnobot
