I spotted this question in a thread and thought it deserved its own post as we don't hear much from the land of the timid sheep is Kiwixter our token Kiwi?

I would like to know what the scene is like in New Zealand I heard that Auckland is like a DnB mecca?

There are a few DnB nights but trance/hard house are the main players here in Auckland. We apparently have some great DnB DJs in Auckland.

the NZ drum n bass scene over all is relatively healthy compared with the other genres, but i guess in auckland, mainly K-road has heaps of what i would call funkless "uplifting" buildup cheedar hard house, or what ever you call that kind of gatecrasher sound... its real accessable to the bulk of people...makes me cringe after hearing build-up after build-up, seeing people dance like theyre airport controlers guiding in aeroplanes, doing "chop" moves...basically what people do at the gym, but they do it in a club-phooo0ort
oooor when u get sick of that you could always find some decent detroit styled techno going on some-where, there seems to be a bit of a revival in interest in that
theres always lush/deep/funky house going down somewhere, and tech-house, trance...its all here, some-thing for most people
but apparently all the drum n bass djs brought in are pretty impressed with the little scene they find, and i think it is cool where its going...seems to be a little more social than a year or so ago...some may disagree---

narrow minded.
let people dance to what gets them dancing.
THEY might like something quite different from YOU.

I am also from New Zealand.
SNeak I am recently back on the scene from being away in the US for 6 months. I got into X and stuff over there.
So I am not so sure about where on Krd is good, decent music and not too many newbies.
Sinners? Voyager?
Have you checked out Cyper?

A Weli opinion: you aucklanders are way too wanky for your own good... not all of you but especially the guy who waS dissing people dancing to uplifitng music they like, whats up with that! Personally i like trance and cheesy house, but i dont begrudge the people who like to look angry and dance to d'n'b and hiphop. Whatever floats your boat! just fuck off and leave the rest of us alone if you have an attitude like that. swweeeettt as bas

hehe...i know, i know....i agree...
i was saying *personally* its not for me, but im all for any-thing in any dance genre that brings people together. Its all good for the people in any genre, all i was saying is personally its not my cup of tea...altho it used to be, buuuuuut i'll stop there
Actually, if i wanted to agree with every-thing every-one said i wouldnt be here would i, and i wouldnt bother saying my opinion (which not every-one has to like)
The welli chap that says auckers are wanky, he may well be right....i cant say cos i havent clubbed in wellington yet, tho the peeps ive met from wellington have been some of the nicest people i met, so perhaps youre right, maybe we are wanky? ooooor maybe every-one is sick of paying $30-$50 for a one night dance party? Maybe people cant afford not to be "wanky" or maybe you could say "selective"? And i am a totally perfect example of this...i mean, a few weeks back we had bukem (almost

and farina, in successive nights. Both from memory were $50 a pop! come-on, if whats making people think we are wanky is not having money coming out our arse, then i say OK! im THE KING WANK!
i may have completely misunderstood what you mean by wanky, so if im wrong please put me right
i dunno...What makes the dance scene work is the differences, if it was all the same we would be just like the older generation in the pubs, frustrated at not knowing why we wernt having fun, starting fights and slagging off woman who wont oblidge....the dance scene works cos we have a choice, we form opinions and we can choose where to spend our money, what music to listen to on any night, what people we'd like to be around, what stimulus we like, what genre, gender, city, country....all the differences make us work, if u took the piss outta the funny lookin drum n bass dance style, i wouldnt sit here and geting offended, cos i know u will be some-where dancing in whatever your style is, havin a good one. Whats the point of taking offence from another personal opinion?
sheeiiit....u must have had a silbling who u grew up with who was constantly saying your music was shit, and them trying to show u why??? "ring my beee ehheehehheeelll ring my beeelllll" but at the base of it, u did like some of their music, but didnt wanna say cos then u would "lose"
So i typed a night night i didnt enjoy, so what
so im a wanker now...lemme know why, I am asking for your opinion, its not gonna leave me in a funk if you put me in your wankafied pile of peeps
but i am sorry if i tainted some-ones day, didnt mean too, i actually thought some-one may see the funny side

The only problem with Cypher is its location in my opinion. There isn't a good vibe going on downtown, too many agro drinkers. Voyager and Sinners always seem to pull decent crowds and play great music. The Staircase should start to get a bit more of a crowd over the next few weeks with Sample Gee becoming a resident on Saturday nights.

no: being selective in what you go to is fair enough... what i mean by wanky is people standing around on the dancefloor, acting like they're *the shit* and pulling sour lemon-sucking faces while inspecting your shoes~!!!
The vibe in the auckland clubs ive been too is mostly ok, but some of them are verging on ridiculaous: you feel like you have just crashed someones private party! maybe i just need to spend more time there and get to know the cool places to go.
And i really hope they change the awful green lights on the sky-syringe its damn ugly!! white/silver is much cooler. Anyway the way i look at the whole nz scene is that its fairly small, we should be a bit more open. You see this at the gathering where everyone is cool doing their own thing, its great!
music wise i *love* the rushy buildups and breakdowns of trance, the serene diva vocals and disco loops of house and i also like the dark energy of dnb. I think there are good elements to any music actually. babble babble babble babble etc.
Anyone go to that jones thing last sat? nice trance!

Ok, is it just me. Or is X dam hard to get in NZ.
Someone mentioned we are having a shortage at the moment, due to a few big busts.
Lucky I can have fun without drugs.
Argh, who am I kidding.

Jones last saturday was incredible!! It was one of the best events this year. Ibiza goes clubbing tonight should be pretty good too. Things are starting to move again in the candy department. Luckily my dds were well stocked up before the drought so i haven't had any problems getting any.

hey cool a thread that was started after me!!....sounds like it was an aussie to!..ha
Well its good to see other kiwis on this board. Hey what did everyone get up to this weekend?...Voyager was cool on fri..anyone else there?
So you think the shortage is over?...well i hope so cause its so damn frustrating. How much do you guys/girls pay for your pills in this lovely country of ours?
Well hope everyone has a great weekend!:-}

yeah well a bit scattered right now but i just want to say that i kinda feel creeped out by trippers dontcha reckon? i mean whats the point of going to a club and siting in tha corner and not talking to anyone except thos patterns on the wall??? i much prefer the whole grinning insanely at strangers to see whether they grin backatcha! i am quite glad e is expensive tho... it sux but i reckon those people in the uk doing 10 a weekend every weekend wouldnt have that much more fun than us new zilders saving it for a special occasin. plus the whole brainwreck thang. oh well i better go and have some milo now, its chocately goodness. peace and ting!

I went to Ibiza goes clubbing on Friday night at Galatos which was a great night. Saturday night we had a look at Cirque but didn't like the small dancefloor at all so spent the rest of the night at Jones. The shortage looks as though it is over. I have been picking my pills up for $60 lately but most others I know have been getting them for the usual price of $80.
