NAC blocks the euphoria of kratom, and when taken chronically together it actually caused me some significant issues like anxiety and dysphoria.
NAC combined with alcohol can purportedly be hepatoxic, however NAC has also been purported to protect the liver against alcohol hepatoxicity via glutathione production if taken several hours before the alcohol.... I'm not sure which is true...
NAC is an interesting compound that I've found many uses for, but anxiety is not one of them. It acts as a mood stabilizer but I have no idea why a shrink would recommend it for anxiety. If anything, it exacerbated anxiety for me.
Well I won't mix it with those. I can only assume that my psychiatrist knows something you might not know about it, but then again, everyone reacts differently. I really hope it doesn't cause me anxiety or I'll just stop taking it.
Let me ask you though, did it exacerbate social anxiety for you, generalized anxiety, or both? Cause he's recommending it for social anxiety. Also, I take prozac and Klonopin, so it might be some kind of synergy between these drugs.
Also, I've now been told that NAC has to build up in the system over time, and I don't love the idea that if I were taking it I'd NEVER be able to take Kratom unless I stopped.
Do you know how long it takes NAC to leave your system if you've been taking it for a while? Like, just for the sake of argument, if you took it twice a day for a month and then stopped, how long would it be before you could take Kratom and enjoy it again?
Edit: I just found this on Wikipedia, and I should note that my social anxiety is OCD in nature and not typical social anxiety: "Tentative evidence exists for
N-acetylcysteine also in the treatment of
Alzheimer's disease,
autism,
obsessive-compulsive disorder.Preliminary evidence showed efficacy in
anxiety disorder,"
