Well I'm spending next weekend looking after my 72 year old Mum who has (esophageal) cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy as we speak. I day dream about administering some medicinal marijauna but at the end of the day it (probably) won't happen.

Among other issues, I'd be concerned that it might not be good for her heart. Yes? Anyone know any pensioners that get stoned?

THC is a cancer preventer! If present when a cell goes "deficient" it dies instead of multiplying every time says recent California studies so Heck yes! Brownies, cookies and butter works great but smoking i dont think would be the death of her especially at her age.

a bout with cancer and diabetes caused my father to quit drinking at the age of 72 . so he gave cannabis a try. he had smoked in his younger days but had quit twenty something years previous.

i must say pot brought him much comfort and relief, but he also had to give that up because of recurring bronchitis.

i think it would be relatively safe if taken with a vaporizer or eaten.

some things of concern are her experience with pot, has she ever smoked before? the effects could be to strong if unprepared.

the raise in blood pressure that pot causes would also be something to think about.

You mean the drop in blood pressure. Yep that would be my only concern, don't want your mum pulling a whitey.

IMO people over the age of 18 have every right in the world to introduce whatever they want into their own bodies. So yes, it is 'OK' to let old people smoke. Even if they have become irrational due to things such as Alzheimer's or dementia they're still adults and should be able to at least try to make the decision themselves.

...

I would give it to her either in brownies or a vaporiser. You don't want her getting the smokers cough at 72.

I see no issue especially if it isn't smoked (due to her condition). Pot may actually help her with pain.

Marijuana is a great medicinal tool for a wide range of medical conditions depending on age and health any method of absorption should suffice to immediate relief :)

yes, thanks for correcting. i got the rapid heartbeat side effect mixed up with high blood pressure.

hey, i was stoned.:p

I blazed a doobie with an old woman who was in her late 70's before. It was a cool experience.

Smoking it might not be the best idea for your momma; but as others have said, if you have a vaporizer or you're willing to put the ganja in baked goods than I'm sure it can be (debatably) beneficial to her health.

I get high with my friends Dad sometimes. He is 65. Its always cool.

Does she want to give it a shot? I mean, from what I hear about chemo, it's a really sad and scary situation. If you want to give your mom some relief, bake her some delicious cookies. It's not hard at all-- one of my favorite things to do, actually.

you shouldn't smoke if you are over the age of 21. It's a fact.

Can you elaborate? I am 50 and considering re-starting after a 20 year abstinence and would like to be aware of the higher risks associated with my age. Thanks.

Yes! Actually, it will probably help her cancer and appetite (which chemotherapy kills). I suggest starting her off with a low oral (baked) dose, which I think would be around .75g. IIRC less than that does not take effect orally, but do more research on that to make sure.

Hopefully it does not need to be said, but ask her first.

I think that post was joking.
