For your speech and general behaviour to be slow the day after?

I took probably about 80mg, possibly more and the day after, even though I felt sober, my girlfriend kept commenting that I was slurring my words and talking and acting really reallly slow.

Is this normal and is there anything to do to reduce that?

Cheers guys

I've only taken diazepam a handful of times (if I took 80mg I would probably be completely KO'd within 20mins) but if your tolerance isn't too insane then you might be feeling some residual effects due to the ridiculously long half-life of diazepam and its metabolites.

I have little tolerance. I took them Monday, went to bed, saw the girlfriend on Tuesday at 8pm and she kept saying you're slurring and just dont seem normal. Seems a long time to still affect?

Yes, you took a big dose for someone with a low tolerance, and diazepam has active metabolites with half lives of up to 200 hours. Why the hell did you take so much valium with a small tolerance?

From wikipedia:

Pharmacokinetic data
Bioavailability (93–100%)
Metabolism Hepatic – CYP2B6 (minor route) to desmethyldiazepam - CYP2C19 (major route) to inactive metabolites – CYP3A4 (major route) to desmethyldiazepam
Half-life 20–100 hours (36–200 hours for main active metabolite desmethyldiazepam)
Excretion Renal

that explains it - thanks :)

So next time...much less.

Having never really taking it before and being a total dick I took 20mg, waited 30mins, nothng happened, so took another 20mg....you get the idea!

Lol way too much for a beginner, it's common for newbies to not realize how high they are on benzos and keep taking more luckily it's hard to fatally OD on benzos alone.

I think thats what happened, I took a couple and not much happend so took a couple more...

I take it theres nothing you can do to stop the slurred/slow speech??

Cheers guys

Nope you could take some caffiene or other stimulant but other then that just gotta wait it out and enjoy it.

Wowzers!!! I know everyone has different body chemistry & different tolerances but 5mgs gets me real nice & hits me within 5 minutes.

80mgs would have me walking into walls for several days after waking up from 15 hours of sleep.

I'm glad you didn't mix opiates or anything else with Valium because it could have turned out really bad..........please be careful & watch your dosage.

Don't worry, it will go away any minute now. You took a huge dose of diazepam which Apperantly saturated tissues enough to extend the duration, and on top of that you likely have a slow metabolism.

But the 12-15 hours you mentioned is the most you can generally expect from a large dose of diazepam, as it has a very short duration.

Next time, take a more reasonable dose, like 20mg-30mg, and it will completely wear off in a matter of hours.

But don't worry, it won't drag on for 22-100 hours, the duration is still much, MUCH shorter than the half-life, even at high doses.

Ummm, ya that's normal if you have a low tolerance, even when I take high doses like that I still feel it the next day, all groggy and poopy. But back in my High School days I would love to take 60mg and still be feeling pretty damn good the next day...now valium dosen't do that much for me, prefer xanax for fun and klonopin for just anxiety and slight buzz at high doses...had alot of benzo's today... like 8mg of Xanax and 2mg of klonopin so a total of about 10mg of benzo's with the 60mg of Roxi..Was kinda hoping the benzo's would give me a nod with the low dose of Oxy(for me anyway, have a tolerance to both) but didn't happen..Am Relaxed and plan to sleep well though, hopefully.

Its very common for me to talk slow, having slurred speech, searching for words during a conversation, etc... Its very easy to explain why. Benzodiazepines have long half-life and a bunch of active metabolites which also have long half-life. Benzos are depressant of positive allosteric modulator of GABAa receptor class.

So yeah its normal.

How to reduce this ? ... probably NOT taking benzos but meaby a cup of coffee, energy drink, amphetamine, crack..... lol

Thanks for the great advice guys

I took them the night before, got really really nice and mellow, had a lovely bath, generally enjoyed it thinking next morning I'd be fine.

Then the next day at work every single person said 'what is up, you sound stoned'!

Now I know :)

For what it's worth, they've never been my thing but I got my hand on a few hundred and you know how it is...so easy to eat ;)

Cheers, I know. It's a one off, I'll most likely not have access to these again and really, with work and girlfriend it's going to be rare that I even get the chance to get buzzed off them.
But thanks.

Thanks man, it didn't knock me out, I think I took it over the course of two or three hours. Peaceful is a great way to describe it but as soon as I had to speak I sounded like I'd just downed 12 beers.

By generic you mean...not the shit you get from India but the genuine ones?
