Is it bad to suddenly stop Divalproex?

I'm currently prescribed 750mg of Divalproex (Valproate Semisodium) daily. I want to know if there are any risks associated with stopping this med "Cold Turkey". I've been on it for about 6 months.

Thanks guys!

I was on 1500 mg of Depakote ER from September 09 to February 10, and I stopped cold turkey and I did not experience any ill side-effects, but I would advice against it. I did it because I really didn't care what it did to me because the side-effects from the medicine made me so depressed and angry that I just didn't care. I would ask your psychiatrist or GP first and maybe try a taper if you are willing.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just take a lot less (250mg instead of 750mg) over the next few days. I've read mixed reports of it mixing poorly with other drugs, and I expect the next week to be filled with a wide variety of drugs, so yeah.

Thanks!
