is bodybuilding (and steroid use) still a "size game"?

I ask this out of curiosity if bodybuilding/steroid use could ever change to the way boxing has changed when the big heavyweights were the "ultimate" THEN but that's not true anymore when the lower weight classes are more dominant than the heavyweight fights/fighters. So I wonder if this could be possible within the bodybuilding community? I would assume Schwarzenegger won by "swag" (i.e. he had the right look at the right time). I would think anyone at 160 competing at the Mr. Olympia could be front page as well rather than the usual heavyweight (over 200 pounds).

Boxing has changed for different reasons then body building so you cant really compare the two
There are no relevant heavyweghts(especially lacking in american boxing) because all the big athletes play other sports that make more money. It easier to sell someone a dream that they are a good runing back and will make it to the league 1 day then to tell them if they keep on getting punched in the face and doing well they might be the heavyweight champion. Now granted there is an influx of a lot of americans coming through I dont really see any of them any more talented then bum ass wilder

As far as body building goes its been a mass monster thing for a very long time, for some strange reason people want to see freaks now so thats what they get. I dont even follow body building anymore cause its hard to look at, I only check in to see how dexter jackson is doing thats about it

The reasons we watch boxing in lower weight classes is different like I said, but I dont see either sport going in the opposite direction anytime soon.

There is a huge market for 'smaller' sized competitive bodybuilders. The number of physique style and classic classes has ballooned in the last 10 years, although it's the stick leg gelled hair narcissistic pretty boy thing that's really booming at the moment.

Wish you had a pic of such thing so I can compare who my competitions are. LOL. =D

Though from I've seen, mens physique is getting good larger and larger every year. Some of the guys carry more weight than the Golden Era bodybuilders of same height.

Which one are you here Mike? These guys look more 170-190 than anything lower, I could be wrong.

Depends on their height. Lots of the physique guys that are 5' 9"+ are coming in at 190+ otherwise they look like Holocaust survivors. I'd say the competitive physique guys that are 5'9 - 5'10"+ are coming in at 200+ and lean.

None of the guys are , i was just posting a picture so you could see
And sero is right

There was a time a lot of these physique men looked like holocaust survivors like he said, but its not acceptable to come in 15-20lbs+ heavier then what was acceptable before

The IFFB just started a Classic Division. Frank Zane was on stage in 88' at 179lbs contest ready but looked 200. Bodybuilding is about symmetry and illusion. You can be 150lbs and look 190lbs if you shred up and work the right muscles.
