is amphetamine methamphetamine? some people tell me it is and some people tell me it has the same effects but amphetamines are less severe and classed b as a drug. what is the difference? also when people refer they took speed do they mean amphetamine or methamphetamine?

amphetamine is not methamphetamine... methamphetamine is however AN amphetamine... as methylenedioxymethamphetamine MDMA is an amphetamine technically...

methamphetamine is a type of methylated amphetamine... amp with the added methyl group making it that much more badass...

now amphetamine itself is not meth... think of amphetamine by itself the erowid description, the amphetamine by all which others are compared... amphetamine makes all the other classes of amps... without amphetamine meth would not exist...

meth is better from others experience in terms of well everything but recreation.

amphetamine is the basic structure... methamphetamine is amphetamine + the methyl group... its more the other way around than what you stated.


but to answer your last question speed can be any amphetamine, methylphenidate or any amp analouges... hell cocaine is close but not called speed.

Meth is N-methyl-alpha-methyl-phenthylamine.
Amphetamine is "normal" alpha-methyl-phenethylamine.

I'm actually glad for that generalization, that way I dont have to sound obnoxious around the neighborhood junkys by saying "whew, that 4-Methcathinone really took it out of me" , I can just say speed
