I wanted to entertain this topic because this is something I have thought about quite extensively. I have come to the conclusion that there is a certain "plane," if you will, that introverts and intellectuals are on that lead them to experiment with drugs/seek out other people that experiment with drugs. I mean this in the least pretentious way possible; my friend just happened to come down this past weekend and we had some really invigorating discussions about pop culture, politics, current affairs, etc. All the while I am thinking about how we both have a desire to experience life in an altered state of mind every so often. Our personality types are INTJ (me) and ENTP respectively, although he is more in the middle and says he doesn't think of himself as one or the other. We also both have a degree of situational depression due to observations about social and political culture that we deem undesirable and too dominant.
I feel like there are a select percentage of people that think very deeply about cultural norms and are particularly opened minded to the use of narcotics to evoke new sensory and spiritual experiences. I looked up statistics on drug use at various colleges and noticed that the ones with the most number of reportings on drug use were "hipster" colleges (vassar, oberlin, reed, etc), which I think serves to support my theory of drug use being related to intellectualism and outside the box thinking. (Also, I don't identify as a hipster but you know what I mean).
That is probably the most pretentious blurb I have written in a while and I'm sure I come off as a bit stuffy but the reason I opened this up is because I'm curious about what you guys have I say about this topic.
Questions to address:
Do you personally find yourself isolated from the "cookie cutter environment" to some extent?
Do you have friends that you use drugs with that you find stimulating intellectually?
What are some of your favorite characters in movies that emulate the isolated intellectual drug using type?
Thanks for reading.
