Does anyone get this just as the ritalin is wearing off? It seems to last about 8-12 hours afterwards. I am wondering what is causing this because I have seen it reported a lot by people and I am usually not this anxious or depressed at all unless I'm coming down from ritalin. To take the ritalin all day everyday to avoid this side effect seems absurd.

This is typically of stimulant comedowns, particularly those with strong (nor)adrenergic effects. Lingering efficacy blocking NE reuptake in the absence of persisting increase in dopaminergic activity is the likely culprit.

Yes. I doubt you could find a living person that Methylphenidate wouldnt cause severe anxiety and depression. The comedown is RUTHLESS! As is with most stimulants. I use to do a bit of Methylphenidate as a youngster, even a little ethylphenidate. All of my "benders" ended the same, depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, wanting to isolate, etc. I'd like to define a bender in this scenario as a every day use as prescribed (40-80mg daily) for a week or 2 *almost* straight.
Be careful with stimulants compadre! They are extremely useful, and good, in the beginning years, but in the end you'll more than likely be depressed and isolate.

Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin) offers many of the same ADHD relief aspects with a significantly less harsh comedown, but these are all relatively super-harsh comedowns compared to the ones that come with Adderall, Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine), and Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine).
Please never snort Ritalin/focalin, as it has a similar chemical structure to cocaine, and will make the comedown suicidal-depression bad compared to oral dosing, which is always the smoothest and least addictive ROA.
In terms of best comedowns, from least to most harsh:
Vyvanse > Dexedrine > Adderall > Focalin > Ritalin
