Mental Health Insomnia.. is this part of the withdrawal?

i abused ecstasy last year and had depression.. after how many months, i had an insomnia for 1 month last january.. and now i think insomnia is kicking in again.. havent slept for exactly 2 days now. what are your medications? and is insomnia is part of the withdrawal or is it just because i had an depression? im so tired of staring at the ceiling and counting stars
 
Well, depending on the last time, and how often you used MDMA, it could very well be a depletion of serotonin.

From personal experience, using ecstasy heavily from age 15-17 (peaked at age 16), I definitely feel an imbalance in my serotonin function.
I do not take medication for it (unless you count self medicating, which I don't recommend either way 8) )
but I do experience anxiety, and insomnia, to this day that wasn't present prior to my days of ecstasy abuse, and I haven't touched MDMA in a long time.

Unless you had recently binged on it and your brain is trying to recoup its serotonin, it could be a long term thing caused by repetitive use....
I'm not sure if it ever goes away to be honest... I feel like I fried my serotonin receptors lol.

So, upon saying that, I suggest looking into eating more foods that contain L-tryptophan to help the production of your serotonin, and help you sleep, seeing as serotonin regulates sleep, mood, body temperature, etc.

5-HTP, and melatonin might do you well if you are seeking more natural remedies.

Def get some 5htp, sounds like you might need it and it cant hurt.Make yourself stay on a regular schedule as well by getting up and going to bed at the same time everyday. It might take time but your body should begin to regulate if you stick with it.As pap also said try some melatonin as well. If you do decide to take it, melatonin works better when you take it earlier like around 7pm so it can reset your circadian rythym.

hi pap! thanks for your suggestion. :) how will i know if my serotonin depleted? i'm using ecstasy every week last year. SOMETIMES 2 or 3 times a week :/

If you get bad enough go see a doctor about it. Insomnia itself can worsen any mental disorder and prevent your neurotransmitters from balancing out. Taking a Z-hypnotic such as Zopiclone when your finding it really hard to sleep wouldn't hurt as long as you only kept it for emergencies. Few things fuck with my head more then insomnia.

Id say sleep is almost the number one thing that if you dont get I dont care WHAT the heck else you do, you gonna feel like hell.Im an ex old raver and trust me I fried my serotonin receptors at no less than once per week sometimes 2-3 times a week for a good five years.Towards the end of my use I had made it up to 12 pills in a night and this was back in the nineties when they were all good. Anyways,it took me a full two years after I stopped altogether to begin to feel normal again.Are you having any kind of hallucinatory dreams or out of body experiences when you DO sleep? Just wondering because things like this along with symptoms of depression will let you know your brains still recovering.

Melatonin has helped me. Id recomend getting the NOW brand, its quality melatonin( many arent) and pretty cheap too. You can PM me if you want and Ill let you know where I get mine online for pretty cheap.. (is that allowed to say on here or is just where to get drugs not allowed- need to re-read the rules I guess).The now brand and others come in 3mg pills. Start with one and see if that works, if it doesnt then keep increasing by one and you can go up too taking 6 of them. As I said, try and take it earlier though like around 7:30-8 pm because our bodies were naturally designed to start producing melatonin at those times but weve obviously kinda gotten away from the Little House on the Prarie Days, but our bodies are still designed to work that way so it will be more effective when taken that way.

You can absolutely take them both together, in fact many people like taking 5htp at night also because it can also make you a bit sleepy.If you wanna make a real good combo to relax you out, add some magnesium and gaba to this mix. I have a doc that uses this combo and in this way and it really does calm the body and mind. Just make sure they are quality supps.If the melatonin doesnt work then as para said, you might need something stronger until you can level out.Unisom or doxylamine succinate works VERY good for me almost like anesthesia, hhe but because its not good to take all the time I only use that for emergencies.The melatonin is obviously better for you but then again if it doesnt cut it Id try unisom, and if that doesnt cut it Id go to the doc.

If you were doing it on a regular basis, which from what you typed looks like it, for a whole year, then I'd say there's good chance there could be some damage to your serotonin activity, but I'm not a doctor :P... That doesn't mean if there is, that it's irreversible though... one year isn't too long of a timespan....

It's good to remember to replenish serotonin after taking ecstasy as well, so the brain doesn't have to struggle as hard to produce a regular level after you come down. 5-htp after a roll is good to help your comedown not be so harsh, and lessen possible depression in the following day(s). And when you are hungry enough to eat, eat something like a banana, or almonds, or meat if you eat meat... they all have lots of tryptophan in them :)

i NEVER took any supplements before and after i roll.. i just realized that i need to after i felt something wrong in me :/ i should have researched more about it before i abused the drug :/

Hey, tried to message ya back but looks like ur inbox needs dumped. Anyways, about what you were sayin I even got some of those back when I was doing it, and what a dissapointment. Looking all bugeyed like Charles Manson for three days wasnt fun either!hhe.Oh yea, I forgot to say the brand of 5htp you said you have of or have taken should be fine too.

Well getting all strung out on IV coke and crack as well as Dexedrine fucked with my head a wee bit. So did all those years of alcoholism and fucked up sleep patterns with that and basically getting no real sleep does not help. Especially when you are smoking crack with it. I have ben on clonazepam and opiates for years but i don't think I'm any worse the wear for it. Id have far worse pain and anxiety without them so yeah i don't regret being on them. Though i do regret overusing them at times :\ . They didn't fuck with my head nearly as much as all those nights staying up drinking, doing coke/crack, Dexedrine and just having natural insomnia. Staring at 4 walls all night really sucks though it reaches new lows on a coke comedown.

sepultura mentioned doxylamine a sedating anti-histamine and personally i find that to be great for sleep. Diphenhydramine is ok but not as good as doxylamine imo. Promethazine (sold in the US under the brand name Phenergan and sold in Canada as Histantil) is a great one for sleep as well. It's also a good anti-histamine and good anti-emetic so it's good for any kind of withdrawal actually. Too bad they gouge the fuck out of you on the prices for Promethazine here :X
