i have insomnia and i have been smoking weed daily since my spring break. i heard that bud does help insomnia. is this true?

Weed certainly can help with insomnia. The trick is to time when you smoke, if the "crash" or comedown is around 11pm, I always dose off easy.

It does fuck up your deep sleep and memory of dreams, though.

ya ive notice all that. the thing is ill stay up if i want to stay up and 50/50 sleep when i want to sleep.
i didnt dream for a really long time but i started smoking less during the day and it was fine when i smoked at night.

sometiems though it backfires and i'll end up watching adult swim till wee hours of the morning

lol, thats happened to me so many times. blaze a few bowls and instead of goin to sleep stay up watchin family guy and ATHF all night lol.

anyway, weed usually helps RELAX you, which in turn, helps you fall alseep. but i guess it doesnt work this way for everyone, but thats what people say it helps you sleep. you work all day or whatever, come home, smoke, chill out, and end up passing out. thats usually the stoner day =D

its one of thoes things id relly like to say it does but in all honesty iv had mixed results cause sometimes ill be so tired but cant sleep so il smoke and then ill get hungry then ill either play video games for a wile or ill pass out and wake up a few hours later and toke more

indica works best for insomnia cause it may raise your heart rate like all weed dose but ull get that relax sensation make u lazy and hopfully put u down this is why iv always been a fan of indica seeing as how iv always had sleep issues

this is true for me aswell ever sence iv started smoking - very rarly do i remember a dream :|

I'm about to combust my go-to-sleep blunt. It's Granddaddy Purple weed, which is indica. I think indica is best for this purpose, along with mellow music and perhaps a sleep aid.

yeah, that does suck, i love remembering my dreams, so I'll just have a long break just for that reason alone.
Back on topic, it helps if you only smoke that one time a day before you go to sleep, but don't try to crash as soon as you sas, otherwise you could end up in deep thought-process, and cause you to become incredibly restless. Try to sleep in between the phase when you're still buzzing, but coming off, works best for me.

If you want to fall asleep, being high makes it easy to. If you want to stay up and do some action, being high makes it easy to. Regardless, I suggest you take melatonin about a half hour before you try falling asleep.

If I start smoking Cannabis in small quantities, just at night. I notice it does help me ease into my sleep. So much that I'll lay in my bed, close my eyes and end up waking up the next morning without remembering I actually "went to sleep," or tried going to sleep.

However, the more I smoke in a day, the less I find it helps me sleep. Being high for some reason gives me this extra energy boost, and I can stay up all morning long like I was on a stimulant or an amphetamine. Might just be me, but Cannabis gives me this super energy surge. Not only to keep staying up longer, but to want to continually smoke more throughout the night (or morning actually).

I've had insomnia ever since I can remember (even back in 1st grade). Weed helps me fall asleep. However, once you've been smoking a lot daily if you stop smoking pot it can cause insomnia. I don't suggest smoking every night to sleep.

I agree about with taking melatonin to fall asleep. It will make you nice and drowsy, allowing sleep to come quite easily with no side effects.

Melatonin on its own doesn't seem to do the trick after a month or two of using. There's plenty of natural sleep aids out there that work, I suggest trying them in combination. I used to mix Sleep MD and Alteril together. Would work very well.

Did that for about 5-6 months before I was able to fall into my natural sleep schedule again, without the use of anything.

That's really the only reason why you should use these aids, to help assist getting your body back into a normal sleeping regimen without the use of supplements or drugs. You should never depend on anything to help you sleep IMO.

I think this is because cannabis releases melatonin and theoretically after chronic use it is depleted. Hence melatonin supplementation.

Actually, it does have a side effect. If you take too much or do not get enough sleep, it makes you more tired the next day.

It has been said that Cannabis does assist the body in releasing melatonin, or actually helps your body produce more melatonin than it naturally would. Not sure if this is proven though.

This would be akin to consuming a large dosage of melatonin every night, and then suddenly stopping it. Anyone who does take melatonin or has taken it before, will agree that your tolerance builds pretty fast on it.

Too little melatonin = no sleep
Too much melatonin = no sleep

Personally I think that cannabis is of no help in getting a good night of sleep, I even think it does the opposite

anecdotally:

it seems like smoking in the afternoon/evening makes it easier to get to sleep at a decent hour, and the sleep is of a pretty good quality. the later i smoke, the more likely it is that i'll stay up doing stoned things, then sleep poorly and too long.
